I try to not make my feed political. But… The linked letter accurately reflects how I feel about the massacre on 10/7 and the aftermath; it is signed by Berkeley faculty I respect. Maybe the rest of us could follow?.

My dept. (ubc cs) is hiring into multiple faculty positions this year. The ad for the tenure track assistant professor positions is still in the works, and I will post it once out. Our tenure track teaching/EL stream ads are out : Please share widely.

Question to the graphics community: does anyone know or has a pointer to any analysis of gender distribution among graphics researchers or graduate students? Anecdotally I know that the numbers are heavily skewed, but no idea how skewed….

This is a paper I am an author on (ICCV not SA). The reviewer comments that our entire research idea is “not good” as it can’t deal with common geometric models. I thought that we showed 100+ of these so I may need to relearn geometry. .

Wow. the second time in my 15y in academia when I get literally "your research idea is not good" in the review. As a senior, I brush this off, but I am sorry for the student who had to see this. We need more kindness :) You can always say the same thing in a nicer way.

SIGGRAPH just came out with grants for early career folks attending this years conference: The deadline is very tight, so do spread the word to all eligible folks and apply yourself if eligible. .
