Its R.E. Howard's birthday. I enjoy Conan and I've made him fun school reading for eldest heir. One of the nicest things I've been told is that much work reminds people of Howard's - I think sword-and-sorcery is a fun genre.

Since I practiced this a lot at Dragonsteel Nexus: Dueling Wizards follows a sellsword who drifts into a town where three wizards vie for control. They're hiring swordsmen and he needs gold to get home - so he tries to play them against one another, and things get bloody.

Nobody asked me, but - most battles fought with melee weapons do not devolve into lots of individual brawls. The force that kept formation would often win. (I appreciate films that take the trouble to show an actual formation in action)

Nobody asked me, but - RPGs and films tend to undersell how good spears actually are.

Nobody asked me, but - swords are expensive weapons compared to spears and axes (or staves and clubs) and probably shouldn't be carried by everybody.
