something about a really long OT, locked in, peak concentration, to having WORLD IS MINE blasting when I score has changed my brain chemistry permanently

This might not be immediately intuitive at a glance, but once more RLCS Swiss brackets have been played out the results should be self-evident!

I'd also like to point to this excellent thread from @messioso that breaks down in more details the flaws in using 1v16, 2v15, (...), 8v9 seeding for Round 1 under this format: https://t.co/NIPlB49aLV
@tomi @YNk @Professeur_CS Best example here, I've put every matchup as the higher seeded team winning. Assume that seeds are correct... #11 qualifies in the final round vs #12, whereas #8 does not qualify after losing to #6. #10 finishes below both #11 and #12 purely because of matchups.

Buchholz is used in Swiss for many other esports, most notably Counter Strike (last month's Perfect World Shanghai Major) which also uses this Round 1 seeding. CS Major rulebook for reference. https://t.co/zlavpYWr9a

This gives a "perfect bracket" (i.e. if the higher-seeded team wins in every match, the Top 8 teams in each Swiss pool advance in order). This is *NOT* the case for Round 1 being 1v16 seeding, as that would disproportionally punish higher seeds by having less Buchholz Score.

As a result, it is mathematically optimal for Round 1 matches to be between the 1v9, 2v10, (...), 8v16 seeds, as it means the higher your initial seed, the higher your predicted Buchholz score at the end of the Swiss.

Buccholz is a "strength-of-schedule" metric, which means it takes into account how well your opponents have performed. This essentially means the "harder" your Swiss Stage, the better Buchholz Score you will have.

#RLCS EU Open 1 Swiss is tomorrow! This is the first time @RLEsports is using the Buchholz System for Swiss, which means things work a bit different than we may be used to! A thread: π§΅

Thank you to Blast, Epic, the fans, and the RM team for allowing me the privilege to work this RLCS World Championship. I will have nightmares of pausing during the Grand Finals for the next 6 months. See you all next season! RLCS REFEREE HAS PAUSED THE GAME. πππ
