Late night listening and Steve Jansen’s drumming is getting me all hot and bothered as I’m listening to Canton.

I found this old Japanese cookery book in my parents’ collection. My dad probably picked it up or maybe even my grandfather originally. This edition was published in 1958! I’m curious to go through the recipes and try some.

I love Steve Jansen’s style of drumming, particularly evident in the Japan song Canton. The two-handed simultaneous strike makes me smile! 😁

I’m listening to Life Without Buildings by #Japan and blown away as always. It’s probably my favourite song of theirs. I love how #SteveJansen and #MickKarn played almost note for note together yet Steve’s sound was crisp while Mick’s was fluid. Such an incredible rhythm section.

Growing up in Florida, we’d have the fireplace going (we actually had one!) and the front door open to cool things off on Christmas Day. Today, 40+ years later in NC, it feels comparable. 🥵 I’m in a tank top/vest tonight. Even my southern Italian dog is feeling the heat.

I really enjoy the Abstract Day version of Beginning to Melt. Is it possible to explain what you were playing @istevejansen? Obviously I assume the drum was a loop but I’m curious what you were playing on the keyboard/synth for most of it.

There’s something about listening specifically to the drums and bass of Japan. Mick and Steve’s connection was so ridiculously tight. Particularly from Obscure Alternatives to Tin Drum. 🙌🏻

Listening to various songs tonight covering my NZ, Dutch, and Italian faves, and a bit of Japan (the band) for an international vibe. (Highly recommend Carrier Pigeon for a bit of NZ flavour)
