Growing organically has a ceiling. Well done. Be super well run. Finish 8th & let the super clubs nick your players. Start again. Trying to break that within the framework of the rules is a totally different challenge.

Obviously defensively we lose something without Mings. But in both senses the make up of the back 4 is crucial to how we play. Don’t feel like we’ve got that balance right for a while. #avfc.

We’re really missing the Pau - Rogers ball that cuts out midfield. Teams have to press Pau to stop that, and that makes space everywhere else. Big reason why we went with the wide back 4 was to drop Youri between the CB to replicate that whilst getting Ty into the team. #avfc.

Agree this suits the players we have. But super interested to see what happens with Pau & Ty. Part of the reason for such stodgy performances is that without Torres teams can sit in against us knowing the back 4 won’t progress through the lines (as well). #avfc.

Emi… well there’s two sides to every story, right? Obviously hasn’t handled himself particularly well though and will have to work hard to reintegrate himself. But he thrives in these situations and if he has a point to prove might get a year of him at his best pre-WC. #avfc.

Elliott though I’m super excited about. One of the very best young English players. Will fancy himself to get into the WC squad with game time. Super passer. Can play on the right. Great age. Good fee. A lot to get used to playing regularly, but he’s a real coup. #avfc.

Lindelof is what it is. Cover with experience. A Europa League Callum Chambers. Fine. Sancho is a poor deal from a business sense. Get him playing though and he’s easily better than what we have. Was good with Maatsen before too. Could go either way. #avfc.

Are we stronger? Nah. Not without Rashford, Asensio, Ramsey. They’re huge, huge misses. Are we weaker though? Maybe not by a lot. And we’ve made a profit, and hopefully complied with the regs. I’m sure they’d have liked it to be different, but they’re trying… #avfc.

#avfc strategy has been to keep stretching themselves to grow revenue faster than it would organically. A club in a hurry. And we’ve hurried far! It’s imperfect, and it’s caused a lot of agg we could have avoided. But we’re 3 consecutive years in Europe. Who else can say that?.

The squad needed a big refresh, but that’s easier said than done given the myriad restrictions and the fact that the bottom has fallen out for players over the age of 27/28 over the past few years. Can only sell them if you’ve got buyers willing to pay for them. #avfc.

My opinion is - the things we say on here, they obviously already know. They know we’re stretched to the max. They know that the squad has gone a bit stale. Took Rashford & Asensio to take us to the required level last year. #avfc.

Well that was an insane window. Plenty of justifiable criticism about how we got here…. but also have to remember ‘here’ is quite a long way from where we started. Depends on your opinion tbh, and none is more or less valid than another. #avfc.
