BREAKING: The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN. Deal is done. Top prospects Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat are headed to Milwaukee. One more big league pitcher will head to the Mets.

Listen, I have a reputation of being pretty optimistic when it comes to the Phillies: This team is worse than it was in 2025. Far worse. No question. It’s pretty crazy that the front office doesn’t see it that way, but from where I’m sitting, it feels pretty obvious.

I've thought about this quite a bit, and I like it a lot more than the current alternative. I do worry about Suarez's defensive decline, and this move would yield the most swing-happy Phillies team of all time; but it's probably worth the offensive output in the aggregate.
Am really talking myself into the Phils signing Eugenio for two years and just spamming 30+ homers a season. Gives them a real power threat in the middle, some protection for the guys up top and changes things up. Won’t cost a ton either. Eugenio and a Adolis bounceback…

This is not to say that Valdez won't be good. His profile projects to age well, and I'm sure he'll be a solid contributor wherever he goes. But this, in my opinion, is not where the Phillies should be investing whatever funds (if any) they have available.

I don't think the Phillies make sense for Framber Valdez whatsoever. I know folks want a shiny new toy after the heartbreak that was the Bichette saga, but Valdez is clearly on the decline (on top of the clubhouse concerns.) You can easily find equivalent production elsewhere.

This is just way too big of a number for the production this deal going to yield. What a mess this Phillies offseason has become.
Free-agent catcher J.T. Realmuto and the Philadelphia Phillies are in agreement on a three-year, $45 million contract with a chance to get to $60 million, according to sources familiar with the deal.

Genuinely can’t bring myself to be excited for this. J.T. Realmuto is a boon to the pitching staff and clubhouse, but the Phillies are about to overpay for a likely par-to-sub-par catcher over the next 2 or 3 years.
Free-agent catcher J.T. Realmuto is close to re-signing with the Phillies, sources tell me and @MattGelb

All I can really say is that the Phillies brass are deluded if they think heading into the season with this lineup, as currently constructed, is a recipe for success.

The smoke surrounding the Phillies and Bo Bichette feels far too thick now for a deal not to get done. Things can obviously shift before the buzzer, but it would be pretty shocking to see him end up elsewhere.

I for one would not handle Kyle Tucker signing with the Mets very well.

And who was the player that set that 2015 bonus record? Another big, strong, power-first outfielder: Jhailyn Ortiz… and we all know how that one turned out. The Phillies system is in a very different place than it was 11 years ago, but it’s a funny coincidence.
Phillies have officially signed Venezuelan CF Francisco Renteria. His signing bonus comes in at $4 million, tying an international amateur franchise record set in 2015. Baseball America ranks him No. 2 in this international class.

I am so happy for and proud of Ranger Suarez. I’ll have to find a prospect writeup I did on him from 2017 — but I remember being dead set on the fact that he could be a starting pitcher. I can’t say I ever saw a $130 Million contract in his future, but this is so great for him.
Source: The Red Sox, who recently missed out on Alex Bregman, are signing SP Ranger Suarez to a 5-year, $130 million contract. @BNightengale and @JonHeyman were on it.

The question on my mind: what team outside of Philadelphia is J.T. Realmuto really an upgrade for? LAA? But I would imagine they believe in O'Hoppe, despite a terrible 2025. TB probably, but they don't spend. Same with PIT. Makes total sense that his market is relatively dead.

The Phillies acquire RHP Chase Shugart in an in-state trade with the Pirates for minor league infielder Francisco Loreto.

Feels like a good table-setter for Bo Bichette. Would imagine he gets a similar AAV — if not a little smaller given he’s due to receive more years. Nothing holding him back from making a decision now. Should only be a matter of time.
Alex Bregman has agreed to a five-year, $175 million deal with the Cubs, per source. After trading for an arm (Edward Cabrera) last week, Chicago gets its much-needed bat. @JeffPassan @JonHeyman were on it.
