Alderman, 42nd Ward. Former City Council President Pro Tem. Was Rahm’s Vice Mayor & lived to tell about it. Democratic candidate for Cook County Board President

Our politics are broken. We’re headed in the wrong direction. I’m running for Cook County Board President to fix our problems and create a future where we can grow, and succeed. Please take a moment to watch this video and share this post.

Two years ago, when a large group of teens severely beat two convenience store employees in the South Loop, the Mayor chalked it up to “kids sometimes make silly decisions” when neighbors were demanding accountability for the brutal attacks & a plan to address that growing
I was deeply disturbed to see the video of young people attacking a mother and her child on the Far South Side yesterday afternoon. That type of behavior is unacceptable in our city and we must not normalize that type of senseless violence. Leaders from my office have been on the

It was pretty clear the Mayor missed the news headlines this morning about taxpayer outrage after opening their property tax bills (that finally arrived 4 months late), to find massive increases. The imposition of the Mayor’s proposed head tax will simply accelerate the growth
NEW: Chicago City Council aldermen have voted down 25-10 Mayor Brandon Johnson's proposed budget in committee. The surprise vote effectively resets negotiations as City Hall's negotiations stall out with a clicking tock. It is a massive defeat for Johnson and his head tax.

As the City Budget director goes on and on about potential quality of life problems if CDOT services are reduced in next year’s city budget… …this was Division at Halsted at 5pm due to CDOT’s current war on bridges. Total gridlock. How much worse would it get in 2027?

When Chicago homeowners finally (hopefully) receive their property tax bills from Cook County, many months late, they will be vexed to see roughly half of their local property tax dollars support this fiscally irresponsible nonsense. 👎
CPS staffers exceeded spending limits, bypassed required preapprovals and expensed activities “of dubious necessity or value to students” as costs surged from $3.6 million to $7.7 million. Good reporting from @KateArmanini

Just one of many new holes in the Mayor’s Swiss cheese budget.
Chicago's proposed FY2026 budget assumes $10M in revenue from a "Cannabinoid Hemp" tax. Congress' Nov. 9 budget deal closes the hemp loophole, effectively banning the products the Mayor seeks to tax. So you can add a $10M dollar log to the deficit fire. #efficienciesfirst

Never thought Little Caesars would ever appear on the “Food Worth a Felony” list. It appears that I stand corrected. Respect.

The Mayor is prepared to send CPS another $500 million after he surpluses $1 billion in TIF across the city. I want CPS to truly invest in classrooms & our children. THIS?? CPS travel spending doubled after COVID: on trips to Las Vegas, Finland & Estonia.

An infusion of federal pandemic relief funding led to the increase in overnight travel. In one case, a principal booked a luxury hotel on the Las Vegas Strip away from a conference they were attend...

Ah, the very same feeder IDOT has been routinely closing down for “repairs” and regularly restricting lane usage over the past many weeks? Now this… I hardly ever drive, but between the many hastily closed east-west bridges over the Chicago River and the intermittent closures
IDOT warned that a massive pothole on the feeder of the Kennedy Expressway could cause some flat tires on Monday.

Yesterday’s City Council Budget Hearing was meant to allow aldermen to have a productive budget discussion with EY: the consulting firm the Mayor hired for $3.2 million to prepare a report. Instead, the Mayor’s Budget Office made sure they controlled all responses to our

When the City Council said the Mayor’s proposed City Budget requires more efficiencies for taxpayers - we weren’t suggesting they cut transparency & honesty.
Look @ChicagoBudget CFO lied to City Council and said the Mayor’s proposed $21/month head tax would ONLY apply to full time employees. But the draft Alders were given shows it applies to part time employee making average of just $2600 a month. Take their slides with skepticism.

Fact: Chicago’s budget has grown 40% since 2019. Growth is outpacing inflation and revenues, raising serious questions about fiscal sustainability. Read our latest analysis: https://t.co/ZpyOC52wb0

Looking forward to our upcoming Special City Council Mtg to have a conversation with Ernst & Young about their $3 million report to better understand the parameters set for them by the Administration & whether the firm was limited in what could be included in their final report.

Glad my colleagues have called for a Special City Council Meeting to speak with Ernst & Young about the $3 million report they prepared, (paid for by you and me) with our tax dollars. Weeks ago, I demanded the entire, unredacted report be made available to City Council and the
Group of Chicago alders are filing a notice for an emergency council meeting to call representatives of Ernst and Young to testify about their city budget report - that the Johnson administration has kept under wraps despite the $3 million price tag

I strongly encourage my friends in the Illinois General Assembly to give serious thought to the real damage this tax could do to a mega-sized economic impact multiplier in Chicago. This is not a music festival you lose & get back.

Proud that even as the smallest ward in Chicago, the 34th ranks #3 citywide for building permits issued this year. We’re creating jobs, building housing, and driving investment right here in our community.
