On our way out to the coast- again- just had to stop and visit this cute little Art Deco bungalow in Enderby, BC. It’s listed for sale at 699K.

In 1936, the Home Builders Lumber Co of Vancouver placed a series of ads in the Calgary Herald, encouraging anyone interested to send away for their free plan book of homes and farm buildings. Shown here is The Moderne, which is the only home of that style to appear in the book.

70 years ago today, a transcontinental legend arrived in Canada. On April 24, 1955, Canadian Pacific Railway unveiled The Canadian — a gleaming streamliner that stitched together the vast beauty of Canada from coast to coast.

In 1967, there were still some pre-WW1 houses standing in Chinatown, including 4 on 2nd Ave SE. Today, all are gone, and just a single rooftop remains of what was once Hull’s Terrace.

Looking southwest across the Bow River toward downtown Calgary, this 1910 photo shows a community on the cusp of re-development by Canadians of Chinese descent. #yycchinatown

Look up. Look way up. In front, an #ArtDeco detail on the 1939 Utilities Building, with a smidge of the 1929 AGT Telephone Building on the right. Behind it, Hanover Place (1980) flanked by Telus Sky (2019). Right corner- photobomb by Brookfield Place (2017]. #YYC

We all get a little banged up… Superior has been the medic for your ride for over 85 years. Fun fact, they would not be allowed under the current land use bylaw. Tell us what you think of that in the comments 🚙🚙 #YYC #VicParkYYC #YYCAuto

2/2 In Calgary, there was Telstar Drugs on Kensington Road, and just around the corner, the Telstar Manor apartments. When Telstar Drugs closed, the sign was saved, restored, and donated to @Glenbow.

2/2 In the 1950s, White Spot sponsored stock car races held at the Springbank Speedway, which explains the presence of the car out front. The speedway would today be located in Willow Park, in between Trico Centre and St. William School.

1/2 You might remember seeing this White Spot on the SW corner of 4th St and 11th Ave SW. Although it was built by the Puckett family in 1946, it changed hands a few years later. Later on, in 1960, it became Steve Pappas’ White Spot No. 1. But in 1955, it was Charlie Ainsworth’s.
