Maybe we should stop asking people to pay more tax - and start asking where all the money’s going.

@AlanJLSmith Start public finances the other way around. Taxes - levy at a reasonable level- eg flat income tax 30%. Then limit spending to match revenues - no deficits allowed.

@AlanJLSmith Well Brexit has reduced tax revenues by £40bn per annum so perhaps that’s a good start… this means the average household is nearly £2000 worse off every year .. but I guess most right wingers just like to blame ethnic minorities…

@AlanJLSmith There never been so much tax collected so you’re bang on - we should all be asking deeper questions about where it’s spent, how efficiently it’s spent and could we spend less and put more back in tax payers pockets.

@AlanJLSmith That's what I have been saying for a long time. If I compare Germany to UK, I can see where the money goes in Germany. In the UK, no fing clue. Healthcare? Non-existent. Roads? A shambles. Public transport? Flying is cheapter. University education? Student loans.

@AlanJLSmith It should not be the right of any government to take ever increasing amounts of money from the people to make up for that government’s incompetence and needless extravagance. Accountability should be front and centre with the fear of legal consequences next.

@AlanJLSmith The taxing isn’t to improve our lives or our health or our country , it’s done to leave you with nothing, and you “will” be happy 😏 That’s why they waste it on green energy , carbon capture, and overseas war and aid .

@AlanJLSmith Alan, we are stuck with wanting high universal benefits whilst at the same time wanting low taxes. This worked when the working population was larger and less folk claimed the benefits. That's now changed and we need to make some choices about which side of the equation we adjust

@AlanJLSmith I genuinely believe most people would not mind paying very high taxes if they could see the money was all being spent in this country for the taxpaying people of this country, instead of spent on illegal migrants or given to other countries.
