um... and please don't read into this here- but while it may be related to chickenpox, it's closer to herpes than chickenpox.
talk to a doc- let the guys with letters after their names give you better advice than a twitter-rando

Family member had it on his penis and rectum and the surrounding area and couldn't take anything because of a prior opioid addiction.

y'ever get a bad sunburn?
multiply that by a factor of 10-1,000 depending on the location and severity of the outbreak, then scrub it with a wire brush.
for weeks, if not months or years.
...then imagine it in your eye, which is a common location

I second this. Got it over the summer at age 38. Worst. Pain. Ever. Mainly because *NOTHING* helped & it lasted for 10 days straight. Way worse than the bone marrow biopsy I had done without sedation. And I was on vacation 9 hours away when it happened too. π

If you have had shingles, do u still need to be vaxxed? I donβt need to relive that agony, worst pain of my life and I spent 32 hours in labor with no meds.

Exactly why I got the first of the two-part long-term shingles vaccine earlier this week. It was a rough vax, but it was nothing compared to the agony that shingles inflicted upon my mother.

If I had a case of actual chicken pox as a child (there was no vaccine available at that time), am I statistically MORE likely to get shingles, as opposed to someone who has been vaccinated? Does anybody know or have a study for this? It's such a horrific diseaseπ’

Thank you, I came to say something similar.
While shingles might not be fatal, it is incredibly painful and can last awhile. I havenβt had it, but I know several who did and wished there had been a vaccine made available at the time.
