Imagine if we spoke to young men the way we speak to young women and told them their value comes from being husbands/fathers and not from professional accomplishments. We need to stop assuming and start rooting for women to achieve the goals they set for themselves.

Growing up I spent over two decades getting lectured by well meaning family and friends about how I needed to prioritize finding a husband over becoming a surgeon. Luckily I didn’t listen.

Nothing irks me at work more than hearing “Dr. FirstName” over the ED loud speaker because someone doesn’t want to say Dr. Tsaousis. That’s my professional NAME and it’s important!!!!!!! My family and I deserve the same degree of respect as those called Smith and Jones. Period.

In the state of Florida, they decided middle school students will be taught that enslaved people benefited from slavery. They insult us in an attempt to gaslight us, and we will not stand for it.

Just a reminder that there are men out there who care about your career goals as much as they care about their own.

Can’t tell you how many times I hear patients, healthcare professionals, and especially other surgeons described as “a lot” or “extra” when the person describing them really means that woman advocates for herself, her family members, or her patients.

While a young man has "potential"; a young women is "not ready." Yet there's no legal protection for "youngism" (age discrimination under 40). As I told @huffpost, women should not take age bias personally. Your ideas & skills matter. @monicatorrr

It's 2023, and this still happens all the time — especially to women of color.

Ok, I’ll admit it. My program director was right, I shouldn’t have skipped clinic so much as a general surgery resident.

Dear New Doc, There will be times when you have a gut feeling something is just not right with your patient. Never ignore it. Even if you can’t explain why.

Wore the hospital green scrubs today instead of my own color with my name and credentials. Took exactly 3 minutes for someone I’ve worked with many times to assume I was a student and ask where the surgeon was.

Newsflash: dating a racist makes you a racist. Because you decided that racism isn’t a dealbreaker. It’s not that hard to understand.
