Last time I was on a hiring committee they literally did not give us access to the job market paper or letters or anything else until Stage 2, after the first stage of screening.

Dear Job Candidates: don't half-ass the research and diversity statements. At some institutions the hiring committee is barred in Stage 1 of the review from seeing the rest of your packet.

Having a blast at #NEUDC2023 but despite what my fitbit thinks I most definitely did not enjoy a swim during the conference. (Apparently I swing my arms a lot while presenting...)

Very honored to have my paper with @MeeraMahadevan featured on VoxDev! We study how politicians adjust their political targeting of poverty relief in response to drought. They put more funds into the hands of copartisan local governments, but only in drought-stricken areas.

The BJP won the 2019 parliamentary elections in India: but was it ALL fair and square? This astonishing new working paper by @sabya_economist provides scientific evidence that suggests vote(r) manipulation by BJP. And no, this is NOT about EVMs. https://t.co/H99CGJPhTV Thread🧵

The reason? Those 27 miles take you over the Santa Cruz mountains. The interaction of the Monterrey Bay and the Santa Cruz mountains give Santa Cruz its own totally distinct weather patterns. (Our actual hot season comes in September and October.)

Today was a good reminder about the importance of microclimates. I drove 40 minutes from home to visit my friend. It was 91 F in her town, and 64 F back in Santa Cruz. 27 miles = 27 degrees
