Yes, a good number of my wife's work colleagues got tired of corporate life and went to live upcountry or returned to their home provinces. And I think it's becoming more common amongst Thais as they realize working at a job that practically owns you is not what life's about.
@Ajarncom A Thai friend retired to baan nok precisely because it allowed him to go back in time culturally.
