Just got off the phone from a major financial institution in London. They wanted to know why South Africa has chosen to commit economic suicide?
I didn't have a good answer for them..
I've read the Moody's report. Cutting through all the jargon they're basically saying that Cyril has not introduced any "step-change" policy reforms to stop SA's slow slide into a socialist hell.
Good idea. I think you can lead by example by destroying your laptop and cell phone, which both contain a number of key components developed or produced in Israel.
“SA is the only wine-producing country with an export ban in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown. In the event of a prolonged lockdown, up to 40% of the annual R 9 billion export value could be lost which will result in bankrupcies and significant job losses”

"..cryptocurrencies tap into the ignorance, desperate faith in technical solutionism and political resentment of the public and weaponize it for the aims of these libertarian private money charlatans to engorge themselves"
Read of the year (so far).
This is the most basic argument against crypto that I tell all the people who call me. The tech doesn't work, and the fundamental idea is ahistorical and flawed. Writing it down so I don't have to repeat myself all the time.

SA REITs in a nutshell:
We care about the environment ('cause solar panels you know), spend plenty on consultants and first class flights to our European investments.
For "retention", we pay our executives handsomely.
Unfortunately this leaves nothing for the shareholders.
@mcleodd
It's completely arbitrary and has nothing to do with combating a virus and everything to do with exerting Marxist power completely contrary to the bill of human rights.

Plenty of EFF and ANC heavyweights get a cut out of the illicit tobacco trade. That part is well understood. I have now heard similar rumours regarding liquor. The ANC's insistence that bottle store owners are not allowed to move stock to more secure locations is very suspicious
Thungela is rapidly becoming the biggest holding in my portfolio, purely through its ridiculous growth. Up another cool 11% today on the back of a very pleasing trading update.
@ThuliMadonsela3
You make statements like "disdain for life" and "impunity" as if they were fact. Which they are not. Ongoing conflicts in Darfur, Eritrea, DRC and Yemen are far worse on this front. Why don't you just call for Hamas to surrender? That's the easiest way to end the killing.
@DoreenMorris
@UNRWA
Much easier to send your money to Al Quds foundation. They have offices in SA and are registered as a NPO (don't pay pesky taxes). After taking 80% cut for their leaders in Qatar, they'll send your money straight to Hamas for you.

South Africa will soon have smart cities in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. President Cyril Ramaphosa says this is part government's plan to grow the economy in whichever way it can.

This is not 'politically correct' but it's true.
I went to boarding school for 7 years and we ALL 'bullied' each other. All came out strong minded and socially calibrated. And we all know what gender we are.
Auditors have completely lost their relevance. I'm not aware of any major corporate fraud that they uncovered (and there have been many), before it was too late.
The audit giant was at the scene of a R12bn fraud at Tongaat Hulett. This week it settled the case for R260m, admitting no liability, writes

Nobody said. What they're pointing out is that the ANC had massive financial problems and as recently as mid October took on a relatively neutral stance in the Middle East. Suddenly, they've gone full Hamasnik and their financial problems are solved. Amazing coincidence.
So the lockdown is extended by 2 weeks, possibly to September, the entire winter season build up is probably lost and TFG is up 5.5%? I give up, I'm buying Tesla shares!
@Richard_Spoor
Nonsense. He's been saying this from the start. Israel don't want Gaza and want the Arab tribes to take responsibility. They just don't want a foreign proxy like Hamas or PLO to be in control.
SAA's collapse was a disaster, but we managed.
Post office's collapse was a disaster, but we managed.
Transnet's collapse was a disaster, but we managed.
Eskom's collapse is a disaster, but we WON'T manage.
WATCH: 🍿 The ANC in Cape Town tried to claim they represent the poor. 🙄 They got answered.
In Cape Town, we are doing everything in our power to protect residents from every failure they’ve inflicted on our country!
Last year some 50,000 people died of TB in South Africa. A disease that can and has virtually been irradicated in most of the world.
Corona will kill far fewer, yet the ANC let's TB rage.
This year the TB deaths will be far higher, as treatment campaigns have been abandoned.

Either they don't believe their own NAV or they slept through financial management 101. Blowing capital on average malls in Alexandria and then diluting the shareholders!

The autocratic government of Kazakhstan lured Bitcoin miners with the promise of cheap energy. Then they strained the grid, which resulted in blackouts, rising prices and now the collapse of the government. Bitcoin has found a use case!

Listed property in SA has some of the worst corporate corruption and most self-serving management on the JSE. Not necessarily correlated with the underlying commercial property market.
