Test yourself! See if you can answer each of these & then check the answers. 🧠 Tip for the brain bee: know what each slice of the brain looks like (coronal, sagittal, horizontal) & be able to label the major brain structures. #SLCBrainBee #BrainBee #Neuroscience #Neuroanatomy

When I see people worried about declining birthrates, I think, aren't we overpopulated? Couldn't we stand to have fewer humans in the world? Might it even be...better for us? Also: Fix the declining birthrate by giving moms a break. https://t.co/ri8BEKMmJM via @GoogleNews

There's a good reason the birthrate is declining in California and the U.S.. We've made parenthood way harder than it should be.

Our paper on Arc's role in LTP is also out in this @SfNJournals issue! Congrats again @madeleineqks and our collaborators @LenoraVolk @rhuganir Sam Cooke and Mark Bear.

Memory consolidation is thought to occur through protein synthesis-dependent synaptic plasticity mechanisms such as long-term potentiation (LTP). Dynamic changes in gene expression and epigenetic...
For those of you who love neurons, have I got a treat for you. This week in JNeurosci find out how different subtypes fire during sleep in mice, interoception and emotion in humans with neurodeneration, tau cell death in human neurons, and much more https://t.co/fbRRMeZlhM

Handstanding rabbits! Because of a genetic deficiency in RORB, a transcription factor in spinal inhibitory neurons, they don't have enough of these neurons and can't prevent this from happening.

The print version of our review is out with a gorgeous illustration of Arc capsids from Janet Iwasa's Animation lab on the cover of Trends in Neurosciences. It was great to work with my incredibly talented colleagues on this during the pandemic. https://t.co/c4mpvO3ALB

Covid Epi Weekly. Progress and Peril. Vaccinations have already saved 40,000+ lives in the US and the pace keeps increasing. But explosive spread of variants in Brazil and lower interest in vaccination are ominous portents. A 4th surge is likely, but a less deadly one. 1/thread

I'm really proud of these students to standing up for themselves. It is important to stand up against bully's wherever you see them. They still might not recognize their behavior, but at least others will recognize your fight and stand with you. https://t.co/L62wOblYSj

Our (Mike, @AerialNeuroSci, Rachel) opinion piece at @TrendsNeuro is now online! This was a labour of love, as it outlines many of the questions my lab is now investigating and melds #neuroscience #virology and #CellBiology. I welcome comments/thoughts!

I wasn't really feeling the holiday spirit, but this helps. Thanks @AliciaGoin9 and @MitaliTyagi2 for decorating the @shepherd_lab and making things more festive in the lab!!

Not good Utah...this isn't done, please continue to be vigilant! Stay safe, wear masks, and maintain physical distance from others. This is still feedback from two weeks ago when everything was just starting to open up. https://t.co/sZ3KNBv5jn

Working in @shepherd_lab for the first time in two months this week. Safety measures make it even more lonely than being at home, but glad to do something with those samples that have been sitting in the fridge since March... Wondering how stable they were, and going to find out!
