How does the atmosphere stop cosmic rays?.Now we know, thanks to the measurements done as part of #BIOSPHERE project. We placed a MiniPIX on a weather balloon, and it obtained the full profile up to 25 kilometers altitude. You can check the results for yourself in the graph.

What are the Smurfs made of? .The material-sensitive X-rays reveal the different metals in different shades and clearly distinguish them from the plastic, shown in green—a nice way to use a silly example to demonstrate the benefit of multichannel color radiography.

Sasha Senck, a senior researcher at the Fachhochschule Oberösterreich, spoke about his work with industrial microCT - according to him, it's just like the one in the hospital, but it can be more precise, becauase it can use higher energies.

Does China need photon-counting detectors? 🇨🇳.Well, of course! One of the leading manufacturing countries has a lot of use for its imaging properties. Matouš Kasal talked about the benefits at Top Unistar's conference. They are our distributor for the Chinese market.

This experiment was just proof of concept for a future partnership, but it required a lot of effort: angle calculations, collimator designs, and the partners at @CVRez are still making a special mounting system for the detector and the emitter.

As the sample only offerend restricted access, we used backscattering and found signs of corrosion and cracks in 12mm of steel. With high enough energy, not even the deeply embedded imperfections stay hidden 👀.

To find defects in a thick steel sample, we needed a stronger source than our lab. We found help in Dukovany!☢️Luckily, @SkupinaCEZ has its own NDT department, and we could borrow their equipment as we cooperate on the @CVRez project. Thank you!

New research by Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences focuses on characterization of radiation quality in clinical proton fields. They used a MiniPIX Timepix3 to measure the deposited energy and spectra during linear energy transfer in simulated proton therapy.
