Inconvenient truth here. Robert Jenrick wasn't only in government; he was Minister of State *for Immigration* for over a year. We're supposed to admire him for resigning. I really don't. I'd admire him if he'd advocated then what he seems to believe now, and had been sacked for.
I am utterly sick of seeing Robert Jenrick having the front to suddenly be worried about illegals. 14 years they had to do something about it. They didn’t. He knows the Tories won’t. He is the front man to try and mug you into saving the Tory Party that was in power when this.

I've read that Nicola Sturgeon is possibly leaving Scotland for London because the SNP are changing their policy on nominations to the House of Lords, and will make her their first. A political platform for the rest of her life to spout her denial of reality and women's rights.😔.
‘[the gender debate] has been hijacked and weaponised by people who are transphobic and homophobic and racist’ -- Nicola Sturgeon, appearing at the Edinburgh Book Festival, doubles down on her demonisation of women who oppose gender self-ID.

Oh, for God's sake. I'd expect Equity to understand the concept of acting. If only disabled actors should play Quasimodo, then we must ensure all roles are played by actors of the nearest protected characteristic. Has Equity complained about Stephen Fry playing Lady Bracknell?.
Equity has raised concerns about the casting process for an upcoming production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Concert, which casts a non-disabled performer in the title role, Quasimodo, arguably one of the most recognisable characters with a disability. The union has been.

I wonder how many of those who are decrying the verdict in the case of Ricky Jones have actually done jury service. I've been called twice. Apart from one woman who didn't speak much English, and whom the judge swiftly replaced, my experience has confirmed my belief that jurors.
We should be grateful when juries return perverse verdicts, even if we don't agree with them. In 1670, two Quakers, William Penn and William Mead, were charged with preaching to an unlawful assembly in the City of London. They certainly preached, and the assembly was certainly

It. Was. A. Jury. Trial. Juries don't uphold “the establishment's narrative”.
Look no further for evidence of our two tier criminal justice system. You can say what you like, including advocating cutting the throats of British citizens, as long as the establishment’s narrative is upheld. Go against the establishment, like Lucy Connolly and Peter Lynch,.

Ricky Jones was acquitted by a jury. They weighed the evidence, and determined that he didn't mean to be taken literally. That should be respected, not scorned. Lucy Connolly pleaded guilty, and was duly sentenced. This is *not* ‘two-tier justice’, but a reminder that it's better.

But people shouldn't attack the jury's decision in the case of ex-Labour councillor Ricky Jones. Lucy Connolly pleaded guilty, and was sentenced. He didn't, and chose to be judged by his peers. This isn't ‘two-tier justice’, but a reminder that juries tend toward better justice.

Post an incendiary Tweet about illegal immigrants and you'll go straight to prison. Call for Right-wing protesters to have their throats cut? That's different.

My word. C4 News has been much better since the departure of the agèd abbot Jon Snow, whose sneery contempt for people who didn't share his worldview was palpable. But on some issues (like this), one person will be treated with respect, yet another still with belligerent disdain.
Couldn’t look away from this insane @Channel4News exchange. I wouldn’t classify it as an interview because that would suggest an openness to hear answers.

I've read some devastating literary reviews in my life, but none quite so lethal as this. Every sentence is a scalpel dissecting the noxious morass of Sturgeon's self-righteousness; a forensic filleting of her pompous persona and political failures. #Frankly has saved the Union.

Michael Heaver was the Brexit Party spokesman for Education. I asked him what their policy of “A Grammar School into every town” would do to 11,000 (then) Academies and Free Schools. I know quite a lot about it, and would have been happy to discuss. He blocked me. #ReformBoard

I didn't know @darrengrimes_ was standing for the #ReformBoard (I don't have a vote), but, my word, his communication skills are a stratosphere above every other candidate so far.

If you have a vote in this, please give it to Gawain @Towler, who is a gentleman and a scholar (and the repository of so much of Reform UK's heritage and philosophy). #ReformBoard.

Sean Connery phoned me once, from his home in the Bahamas. I'd asked him to support an honours nomination for a mutual acquaintance (a CBE, I think). He said he'd write (I still have the letter somewhere), but, my word, he was arrogant and so gratuitously unpleasant about it all.

Class. Pure class.
I've remained silent over the last week with regard to the @PolariPrize as I wanted to get my thoughts in order. Many thanks to all the people who've contacted me with messages of support. This is all I have to say, and all I will ever say, on the subject. -JB
