It is ironic that we are obliged to book long haul flights to Miami to present our super sustainable project to the jury in the World Architecture Festival 2025. But attending will help spread the message that carbon reduction can be a catalyst for creative form-making.

Breaking news: AJA have two buildings shortlisted for the 2025 UK Brick Awards. Queen Elizabeth Hall and Copper Bottom. Neither is the usual fare for the brick awards, and neither is just about brick, but they both celebrate and exploit its unique qualities.

Villa Katerina 3. The house belongs to the island vet, and is home to nine cats, three dogs, one pony and an unknown number of tortoises. The courtyard has tall doors on its open side so it can be closed off when the wind blows.

Villa Katerina 2. There are huge sliding doors between the living space and the courtyard so the spaces merge. Both address the spectacular vista of the Mediterranean to the south. The the focus of the view is the majestic rock which rises from the sea beyond the port of Kapsali.

Our yoga studio had a guest slot on BBC local news in a feature on flood resilience. The building takes an innovative approach; the discreet grille at the base of the façade conceals valves which allow floodwater (but not vermin) to run through the building.

Our design for a new teaching building at an historic school reclads an existing ‘50s block and then extends it. The spirit of the chunky, archy, buttressy context is invested in a new masonry skin which has the depth to act as a brise-soleil for the south-west facing windows.
