The 'pandemic' revealed that 85% of the public are not what they seem. Five years later, everything looks sort-of back to normal, but 15% of us feel like we're living in a kind of theme park.

Barely a week ago, we were told we were entering the UK's 4th 'heatwave' this summer! The BBC forecast showed continuous sun symbols stretching 2 wks hence. Headlines, sage opinions "This isn't normal". All vanished 3 days later. What happened?.

Can we trust the BBC weather forecasts any more? Strongly suspecting that they use the 2-week forecast to reinforce 'climate change' stories planted in the media, quietly changing it later. The predicted 'heatwave' has mysteriously vanished.

When seatbelt laws were being brought in, somebody did some research showing that people drive faster when wearing seatbelts (psychology). So the new laws were, in effect, causing danger to other people. Normal people *hated* that finding. Interesting people smiled wryly.

So about this 4th 'heatwave'😱. Here in the East South East, a couple of warmish days (30, 28degC) that clouded over in the afternoon. Rain during the night on one of them. Today cloudy. The BBC forecast of sun for 2 weeks replaced with cloud. It was climate change PR writ large.

I see this as different from business, which has always recruited from far and wide but has to 'make its own way in the world'. Whereas, the civil service is simply handed unlimited power on the assumption it will abide by the now-obsolete 'gentleman's' code of conduct.

. psychopaths attracting psychopaths and the whole governing apparatus becoming psychopathic? The system previously was self-limiting: there weren't enough upper middle class psychopaths for it to happen. But the UK now feels a lot more vulnerable to becoming a banana republic. /.

In the old days, the machinery of government & civil service recruited from a small, privileged class of people. Possibly that class possessed disproportionately benign personality traits, or maybe reflective of society at large. But now the pool is much wider, what is to stop /.

Why is it that whenever I discover a brilliant podcast that has been producing great material on a daily basis for years, as soon as I start listening they seem to suspend operations and go radio silent?.

Your future changed today. That dream you had of retiring to the countryside? With a little car to get you around? Well it's now in the hands of the government - that hates drivers. The rigorousness of this 'test' can be entirely arbitrary. Your future is now in the city.

It's raining. The grass is green. Excellent. The 'three heatwaves' (brief period of standard summer weather) are forgotten and we have averted the worst of the 'climate change' / 'extreme weather' bleating.

Thing is, I feel no love for any of the scene pictured. If I walked past it, I don't think I would have noticed it. But weirdly, it *really* offends some people while anything non-structural (but in their eyeline for years) is fine.

More auto-destruction by the Left. I dare say quite a few Left-wingers enjoy the pub, but even pubs cannot escape Labour's war against business in general.

This kind of storyπŸ‘‡always seems ironic in the context of NetZero, ESG, DEI etc. Humanity seems to be doing its best to snuff out its ability to do rigorous, big engineering while at the same time promoting ideas such as deflecting asteroids.

All the incoming UK government had to do was strongly signal it doesn't despise the core of the country, and stop giving away/burning the country's wealth. It has done neither of these things.
