'Donaldsonās Faustus is bombastic and loud, contrasted with times of great subtlety and clarity. It is a real tour-de-force performance with vulnerability exposed consistently that made this a performance which was utterly compelling.' https://t.co/aesVL0A5uk

'Itās not often Iām moved to a full on cry, but such were the performances from @HawbagHaws, @AdamOfDonaldson & Judy Earl - & the nightmare situation they were facing - I'd pretty much forgotten they were pretending.' @samwonfor reviews Subterranea https://t.co/IkgAs0rgdH

AND, we now have theatres announcing new seasons which are actually ANNUAL programmes of work. The whole model is running on a reduced scale. Add in a cost of living crisis, casual work places taking the piss with their T&Cs (gigs not jobs), and the usual barriers to access...

On my mind a lot...The small-scale engagements which kept my career ticking over & massively expanded my skillset seem to have all but disappeared. That breadth of work meant I could walk into The NT in my 30s with confidence...where do young artists nurture their careers now?
"In 10 yearsā time weāre going to turn around and say āwhere are all the artists, where are all the stories, where are all the good ideas?ā" @mrdavebyrne, @royalcourt Artistic Director, has called for a ārescue packageā to keep young people in the arts. https://t.co/mkGDBe1aVB

Farewell, Paul Auster. Such a distinctive voice: inventive, mundane, absurd, personal - all at once! I fell in love with this gem last year, and Iāll be working through his other works for years to come. Bravo sir š

I eventually watched Road House last night - truly ludicrous fun. A proper silly 90s throwback! Only thing missing was Nicholas Cage playing the alligator š

Again - soapbox moment - theatre can be as relevant as ever, even in the digital age, but itās a huge expense for the average person/family. Even if a clutch of affordable tickets are available, the headline prices at big shows deter audiences with limited disposable income.
Patti LuPone: āI feel as if Broadway is turning into Disneyland, circus or Las Vegas⦠the ticket prices: outrageous. Thereās so many obstacles that prevent Theatre from being the tool that it should be in our society, which is an education.ā

In film, literature or theatre, that moment of story realisation - where everything changes - is always a thrill. Just experienced it in this book. Engrossed.

Baby Reindeer - will try hard not to binge it - one of the best opening episodes I've seen in a long time. Texts as subheadings, ultra close-ups, making VO cool again...high hopes...performances on the money too.
