First post in a looong time but with our wonderful NAR story led by brilliant duo Anna and Abhishek, I could not resist! Great example of how sequence control function - here, in transcription. Seeing also this long awaited conformational change in real-time is special.
A small structural module blocks the path of nascent RNA during early transcription. Our work uncovers mechanisms for its displacement. Read more: ⤵️ @AchillesKap @anna_wang692 @Impratip96 #smFRET #transcription #proteindynamics

So happy to see this AMR-related story from our 3-way collab!! Huge congrats to Alison + team, and thanks to @oxmartinschool.bsky.social for supporting it. Basic idea: deep "learning" ribosome distributions after antibiotic treatment rapidly classifies cells as resistant or not.
Our work on rapid detection of antibiotic resistant and susceptible cells using ribosome phenotypes is out today! We used fluorescent imaging and changes in bacterial structure to classify single cells with high accuracy. @AchillesKap @oxmartinschool

The buzz is still on! We had an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G time at SMolBac3 - exciting discoveries, cool new methods, lively debate at a Cotswolds setting. Thanks to all who joined and CU in 2-3 years for IV! 👍👍 @BiochemSoc for co-organising!

Self-quenched fluorophores attached to short DNA labels increase signal/resolution and reduce background in DNA-PAINT and DNA-STED. We are glad that this follow-up story (more fluors) is now out in JPC. Thank you @JPhysChem and our great Editor @JulieBiteenLab 🙏 @goetheuni

New preprint! Congrats to @alisonefarrar for superb work on turning "ribosome maps" into a way to detect #antibioticresistance quickly! One more fruit from our "collaborative tree" (with @CNellaker & Nicole Stoesser @ModMedMicro) planted using @oxmartinschool seeds!
Can we tell whether a bacterial strain is sensitive or resistant to an antibiotic in 30 minutes, with a single image? Ribosome phenotypes let us see intracellular changes associated with antibiotic resistance in 1 image. #antibioticresistance
