"The fact that our Attorney General is arguing against our Ohio Constitution in court is really something that the brain has a hard time wrapping its head around," abortion rights activist Jaime Miracle said.
NEW: An Ohio appellate court decided that while the state's six-week abortion ban should remain blocked, other provisions need to be reevaluated by a county judge. This ruling, however, won't change access to care at this time. @WEWS @WCPO @OhioCapJournal

"House Bill 324 is in direct conflict with the Ohio Constitution because it seeks to use junk science to override widely accepted, evidence-based standards of care," said Jaime Miracle, deputy director of Abortion Forward, which helped pass the 2023 measure.

Apparently, Brian Stewart thinks I’m a paid actor, so let me clarify that I’m a lifelong Ohioan who disrupted today’s bullshit hearing bc I care deeply abt this state & bc I’m outraged that the Ds would yet again sell us & our democracy out to let the GOP further rig our map. 🤘🏼
here's a portion of my disruption wherein I lamented that this entire process is bullshit, it's not but abject disrespect of Ohioans, our constitution, the people's will. And specifically @nickieantonio and @Isaacsohn you should be ashamed of what you're doing. We deserve better

Looks like @GovMikeDeWine was hiding in the hall because he was too cowardly to come into the hearing room and listen to Ohioans who care about our state.
Gov. Mike DeWine spoke with reporters about the map in the hallway. He says he's a "yes." "I would just say this darn well could be a 12-3 map. Those are pretty darn good numbers, and I think it lessens a chance there'll be a referendum that our side might lose."

I just got kicked out of the hearing for demanding they wait until the Gov comes in because they're ignoring us completely. This process is bullshit. The Ds should be ashamed of themselves for going along with any of this, incl silencing all of us (incl in the room)

@OhioGabe rightfully names that Trump wants GOP to rig map before the 2026 election. WHY ARE DEMS AGREEING TO HELP THAT PLAN?! They're going to adopt a 12R-3D map that further rigs us into oblivious. So outrageous!

Up now is @OhioGabe from @AbortionForward who reminds folks that we're hosting this hearing when most parents are prepping to go trick or treating with their kiddos, cutting parents out of this convo and out of our democracy. Let em have it, Gabe!!!

wild to see the GOP (allegedly concerned by the Ds' 8R-7D map given its uncouth combo of urban/rural areas) draw a map that links Cbus suburb Dublin, the downtown Statehouse, & Piqua or Westerville with the town of Sardis on the WV border!!! so much for community protection!
I have obtained an image of the Ohio Redistricting Commission's Compromise map and recreated it as best as I could in @davesredist, shaded by 2020 President & 2024 President:

SB 156 to mandate schools teach the "success sequence", just another rebrand of failed abstinence-only sex education programs, passes the Ohio Senate 24-9, along party lines. 👎 It now heads to the House for consideration.

Minority Leader Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) speaking against SB 156 - We would be much better off working on the things that do lead to success, increasing the minimum wage, supporting women, supporting farmers. Not shaming kids if their family doesn't look like others.

Senator Ingram rises to speak against the bill following the failure of her parental opt-out amendment. Pointing out that this curriculum is REQUIRED for graduation under SB 156. Students should not have to sit through this stigmatizing misinformation to graduate HS in Ohio.

Sen Kent Smith continues - if the OH Leg is serious about reducing poverty we could increase the minimum wage, provide paid family leave, assist families who need child care support. There are so many ways to help families in our state rise out of poverty SB 156 is not it.

Senator Kent Smith (D-Euclid) rises in opposition to SB 156 - saying that its "least effective" way to address poverty in our state. He reads from experts talking about how the bill fails to address racial disparities in poverty and leaves students behind.

Republicans claim that the bill already allows for parental opt-out but that is a LIE - the bill just allows parents to read and examine the curriculum NOT opt their child out. Once again republicans show their hypocrisy on parents rights. Amendment is tabled 24-9.
