We need to move forward and finish Durham/Shepherd. We cannot leave millions in federal $ on the table and a half-finished project.
At the heart of this is safety, drainage, and an economic driver for the community - a commitment to creating a safer, more resilient Houston.
@AbbieKamin
Thanks for this exchange! In his rebuttal the mayor said that 3 lanes is only a problem if the lanes are narrowed also. So let's take that compromise, increase each lane by 0.5ft to make them the same 11ft as currently exist and move forward.
@houmayor
made a reasonable compromise for Shepherd/Durham today that
@MHRAHou
should consider because it's a very minor concession. He indicated, 3 lanes is ok, but his main issue is that the lanes were also narrowed which is why he is opposed. (listen to video). Current lanes…
@AbbieKamin
Thank you for fighting for everyone who supports the project. I really don’t see what reason there is to pause this and I don’t think the mayor can keep making up/hiding the reasons to stop it.
@AbbieKamin
Thank you so much for your continued efforts to move this much wanted project forward. Stopping it or changing it when it’s half way done is just absurd.
@AbbieKamin
Very well said. This project is overwhelmingly supported, and the mayor is learning quickly he has no support in this fight. Hopefully the city can come to an agreement to trim down to 3 lanes and keep the project on schedule.
@AbbieKamin
Thank you.
Residents of Houston want improved, safe, beautiful roads that add to the city and make it walkable.
This also increase the value (more property taxes) when higher density projects go in that residents like walk & bike to.
@AbbieKamin
Whitmire peacocking that he rep’d the district for 50 years is ironic since he did zero to initiate the kind of infrastructure upgrades required for increased residential densification. As is his MO, he supports it when donors WERE Dems & opposes when his donors ARE Republicans.
@AbbieKamin
This is the best redevelopment initiative the inner loop has undertaken since the Buffalo Bayou redevelopment. Abandonment of this long overdue city greening and pedestrian focused initiative shows a disappointing lack of vision and leadership from the Mayor’s office.
