13) One final point: Montreal is not unique in this scourge of Jew hatred. Despite Canadian Jews comprising only 1.4 percent of Canada's population, they now account for 70 percent of religious hate crimes, according to a report by the National Center for Combating Antisemitism.

12) There is no room for interpretation here. Factually and objectively, the violence committed against Jews in Montreal in the past few days marks a turning point in the rising tide of Jew hatred in this city. As a local journalist, I must bear witness to this.

11) "One of the main actors is a (Dawson) student. The email includes several screenshots illustrating these exchanges," according to the government report that goes out of its way to underscore the importance of academic freedom.

10) "On May 9, 2025, an anonymous email sent to Dawson College denounced a chat group on social media between students from different institutions. The comments were described as hateful, antisemitic, racist and threatening to various groups," the government report found.

9) The report focused on an antisemitic episode that was brought to Dawson's attention last spring. Effectively, the report confirmed a series of stories that were published in The Gazette on this subject.

8) Last month, a government report on tensions at Dawson College documented two highly disturbing antisemitic incidents involving students at the CEGEP. These students will help shape the future of Montreal.

7) A month later, the mayor of Côte-St-Luc, Mitchell Brownstein, lamented publicly that Jews no longer felt safe in their own city amid a climate of surging antisemitism. He called on Mayor Valérie Plante to take action, but his pleas have gone unanswered.

6) In November 2023, Jewish-owned businesses in Montreal were vandalized with antisemitic material, private Jewish schools were shot at with bullets and synagogue entrances were firebombed.

5) During a 12-month period since Oct. 7, 2023 — when Hamas committed the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust — Montreal police recorded 212 hate crimes against Jews, averaging four such incidents a week in a city with deep Jewish roots.

4) What set these incidents apart from previous cases of Jew hatred in Montreal is the sheer physical violence, signifying a troubling escalation in the city and raising questions as to whether local authorities truly understand the scope of this crisis.

3) In the other attack, a woman was arrested after throwing liquid reeking of urine at Jewish participants at the Montreal Pride parade on Sunday. An activist said later that they “appreciated” the decision to douse the participants with the noxious liquid.

2) In the more shocking of the two attacks, a father was savagely beaten in front of his little daughter, his kippah yanked off his head. The girl shrieked, clinging to her dad, who was punched while lying on the ground with a bloodied, broken nose.

1) The arrests this week of two individuals who physically assaulted Montreal Jews for just being Jews underscores the rising antisemitism in a city with the third highest concentration of Holocaust survivors in the world, after Israel and New York.
