We weave together basic biology and translational physiology to investigate the pathology in neuromuscular disorders which affect infants and young children with an emphasis on the respiratory system. We also investigate cutting edge therapies to treat these disorders.

2 of them began their lab careers online 4yrs ago in the @elmallahlab. They crushed presentations of their thesis work at several forums across @DukeU in their final weeks, including @DukePedsRes Retreat and together they will be co-authors 7 manuscripts. #ProudPI

12 years ago, I graduated undergrad with the support of an incredible mentor. Today, I got to be the mentor. The Roger Lab had 4 outstanding seniors graduate today. I’m excited to see where their passions lead them next. #newPI #RogerLabatDuke

My first #ASGCT was in 2011 when there were ~1500 attendees. It’s been several years since I have been able to attend and it is incredible to see the growth of this field in person. From hotel basement conference rooms to filling an entire convention center.

Even after almost 100 years of Pompe disease research, we are still learning new aspects of pathology. Proud of the work our team did to get this impactful work out. Congratulations @LeaElHaddad!

On that note, unless you’ve asked confidential information, you don’t know who in the program is paying to play vs those that are there on scholarship, and you could be turning away those students too.

You’re right, it sucks that some students have to pay for the program. In a perfect world grants would cover it, but the center that puts these programs on has tried for decades to get more funding and struggles year after year to support the few that it can.

Respectfully I disagree. This program changed my life. I am & have always been painfully aware of the privilege I had. But @ the time it was the only program I knew of and given that I lived 3.5 hrs away from G’ville, it was the only way I knew how to get this kind of experience.

Thankful to to @APSPhysiology @APSRespiration for giving me the opportunity to present my latest research on treating Pompe disease at #APS2023. I had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones.

If you don’t have multiple bandaids on your feet, are you even at a conference?
