I understand the risks, but I'm with the patients. MRI and targeted biopsy greatly reduce costs and harms of #prostate screening. Soon #AI like that of @LucidaMedical will further reduce costs and harms. I get my PSA tested and if it rises I would not hesitate to get an MRI. 5/.

Patients are anxious for better, earlier diagnosis, weighting this far higher than treatment harms, and the presenter here advocated passionately for increased #prostatecancer #screening. 4/.

For payors cost of PSA+MRI is significant, perhaps £250-500 per visit. This may seem high at a NNT of 25-50, but it's better than many other diseases. Personalised screening, with visits from 1-5 years from age 50-70 according to risk and previous tests, helps further. 3/.

The doctors' view is robust. Screening has been associated with high costs, overtreatment, and lifelong side-effects. These harms and costs must be balanced against the benefits of treatment. We need more accurate detection to do better. 2/.
