Today honors passage of Jefferson’s Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom on 1/16/1786. Its provisions of no established church & freedom of religion for all became the model for the U.S. Constitution's 1st Amendment. Celebrate by recommitting to protect church-state separation.

On 1-13, SCOTUS will hear 2 cases on whether states can categorically bar transgender girls & women from female sports teams. A broad ruling could open the door to widespread discrimination against trans people in every part of public life.

"The proposal to exempt only plaintiff churches and not secular nonprofits (from the Johnson Amendment) would be unfair, unconstitutional and unhealthy for our democracy because it would allow churches to become unaccountable political action committees.” AU's @rachelklaser.
