H.E. Dr Delese Mimi Darko thanked Hon. Dr Nsanzimana for Rwanda’s strong commitment to advancing AMA’s mandate, and the Minister congratulated the Director-General on the significant progress in AMA’s operationalisation since her assumption of duty.

Today, the Rwanda Minister of Health, Dr Sabin Nsanzimana, accompanied by the DG of Rwanda FDA, Dr Emile Bienvenu, paid a courtesy visit to the AMA Secretariat. He was received by DG of AMA, H.E. Dr Delese Mimi Darko and the Chair of the AMA Governing Board, Dr Yossounon Chabi.

H.E. Dr Delese Mimi Darko also shared key priorities for the year: capacity building of NRAs, universal ratification of the AMA Treaty, and supporting local manufacturing.

The AMA Secretariat hosted a delegation from @GatesFoundation Africa. AMA Director-General, H.E. Dr Delese Mimi Darko expressed appreciation for their strong partnership in operationalising AMA.

Dr Chirombo congratulated the AMA DG, H.E. Dr Mimi Darko, on her assumption of office and pledged WHO’s assistance to AMA, including the immediate secondment of one Technical Officer to AMA. H.E. Dr Darko thanked WHO for the support and reaffirmed commitment to collaboration.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Rwanda, Dr Brian Chirombo, paid a courtesy visit to the AMA Secretariat. He was accompanied by Prof. Dr Emile Bienvenu, Director-General of @RwandaFDA and Board Member of AMA.

Dr Elsaid Kamel, CEO of Utopia Pharmaceuticals, called for accelerated harmonisation of medical product registration efforts across Africa led by AMA. A strong example and hope for Africa’s health security.

The Director-General, H.E. Dr Delese Mimi Darko, commended Utopia for its bold steps towards Africa’s health sovereignty and its commitment to drive growth and partnerships across Africa.

Today, the AMA Secretariat received a delegation from Utopia Pharmaceuticals Ltd. of Egypt as the latter explores expansion and capacity building opportunities across Africa.

This virtual meeting precedes the first in-person Meeting of Heads of National Regulatory Agencies (NRAs), scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 29 to 30 January.
