Today at a few of our elementary schools, our in-person pilot began. To say our staff were excited is an understatement. Thanks to our bus drivers and school staff, our children arrived ready to start! It was a great day! I applaud the pilot teachers on taking on this task.
New Teacher Orientation is happening in Indian Prairie 204!!! It is always exciting to see those teachers either new to teaching or new to the district come in with their energy and excitement! Today I was at Neuqua Valley. We are honored that they selected us.
A great school system is one where our former students want to come back to work. Indian Prairie is such a system. Today I met Ms. Perrigo one of our new teachers who went to our system and will now be a special education teacher. She attended Crone MS and now works there!
Today, thanks to Dr. Mark Henry, district pharmacy manager for Jewel Osco, we were able to give the COVID-19 vaccine to more than 300 staff. His group of pharmacists started at 9 this morning and will work until 5 this evening. This is a great beginning with more to come.
This morning Neuqua Valley HS served as a testing site for the SATs. Solid protocols were in place to support health and safety. Much praise to the staff at the school for what they did this morning in ensuring our students had this opportunity.
Thanks to DuPage Health department setting aside vaccines for our teachers, Districts 200, 201, 202, 203, and 204 now will have a weekly COVID vaccine clinic. Today was our clinic and almost 200 staff were vaccinated thanks to Empower Health Services.
The day is here, and our staff are doing a great job! I have seen our students engaged in learning today. From science to PE to Algebra, it is happening! Students are happy to be back!
We are open this snowy morning thanks to our building service teams at our schools. At Still Middle School Ms Sonia Alaniz is working hard to ensure our walks are clear and safe. At 3:30 this morning I was able to see crews cleaning parking lot at Neuqua. It is a team effort!

This morning our elementary schools welcomed back students in grades K-2 as we restarted in-person learning. PreK restarted, too. Students and staff were ecstatic about being back. This week is just the beginning of the process with more students coming in next week.
Perfect score for Sydney a Metea Mustang. Today she scored a perfect score in competition with her team against Naperville Central. It was great seeing her bowl and the whole team compete.
Do you remember where you were 20 years ago? I was meeting with a parent while I was principal in NY not aware at the time that one of our parents, our PTA treasurer & firefighter, would die saving people in the World Trade Center. Let’s remember and never forget today.
This morning I was able to meet our 3rd A+ Award winner Ms Jennifer Kastner an English teacher at Waubonsie. Ms Kastner spoke passionately about her students and the creative writing classes. She student taught at Waubonsie and never left. A true warrior!
Our girls swim team at Neuqua was in competition today. I was able to see them swim and see our girl swimmers at Metea practice. Waubonsie, I will see you soon. Great student athletes!
Today I was able to see another one of our A+ Award winning teachers, Ms Stephanie Kuehn. She teaches math at Granger MS. She actually attended Granger as a student. She is an Ironman competitor. Thanks to the Silfies family for recommending her. Way to go!
Great news in that all 3 of our high schools have been recognized as Project Lead the Way 2020-2021 Distinguished Schools! Metea, Waubonsie, and Neuqua join 21 other HS in the state and only 201 HS nationally with that distinction. Third year in a row for our schools!

Vaccine clinic today at Neuqua HS for more than 3,500 people age 12 and older from Districts 203 and 204. Congressman Bill Foster came by to see this great event. Thanks to student and adult volunteers and staff to make this event happen. Big thanks to Jewel Osco!
Students taking their tests to get their learner’s permit at Waubonsie HS. Through a partnership with the DMV and the great work of our staff our students and their parents do not need to wait at the DMV. All three HS are offering this service.

Former Marine, Mr. Robert Tesmond, is our A+ Award winner at Metea HS. He teaches Literacy strategies at the school. Mr. Tesmond continues to model the Marine motto “Always Faithful” in his commitment to his students. His students are lucky to have him as their teacher!
I just left Crone MS where I met Mr. Bryan Buss, A+ Award winner. He teaches English/Language Arts and Social Studies. He considers teaching his “calling” and in talking with him I could see how passionately he cares about what he does for our students! He is “home” at Crone!
Our Waubonsie Valley Marching Band showed off its talent tonight in their concert. Stands were full of admiring parents and fans. Our students were exemplary! Thanks to the staff for their hard work.
Our nurses are back! It was great to see these outstanding professional health care workers who are focused on keeping our children and our staff healthy. Our nurses deserve our praise and gratitude.
Today, more than 1,500 of our great seniors are taking the SATs at our schools. We wish our seniors well. Thanks to our excellent staff at the schools for organizing and proctoring.
Congratulations to our three Presidential Scholars and Waubonsie Seniors Rishi Patel, Piya Shah, and Jaisnav Rajesh! The state of Illinois has 5 total scholars and 3 are from WV! It was great to meet these very accomplished students.

Wildcat Pride! Today I met A+ Award winner Ms. Erica Pavlik a business teacher at Neuqua Valley HS. She is constantly trying to connect with her students and making their learning relevant. Her whole career has been at IPSD. She is an example of what is good about our district!

COVID-19 vaccination clinic held today at NVHS due to collaboration among Jewel Osco’s Dr. Henry, IPSD nurses, Jewel’s pharmacists and students at NVHS. We were able to vaccinate more than 1,100 community members ranging in age from 16 - 90. Great for our whole community!
Today, I met Ms. Megan Federhofer, 5th grade teacher at Brookdale and an A+ Award winner. She was nominated by Luke whom you see with her. Ms. Federhofer is energetic, exuberant, and engaging with her students. Brookdale is her second home!
Warriors celebrated their graduation today! WV had a perfect day for its graduation of more than 600 students. From start to finish the event celebrated our wonderful students! Proud day for the school!

A+ Award winner Ms Courtney Abrahamovich is a 5th grade teacher at Patterson ES. The prairie dogs of Patterson are proud and excited to have this award winner in their midst! She was nominated by more than 10 families! All but one year of her career has been at IPSD 204!

Today, Veterans’ Day, we celebrate all who have served in the armed forces! I think of my father a career Air Force member and two of my brothers. I also think of all IPSD staff who have served and now work for the school system. Thank you for your service to our country!
Today our PreK program distributed curriculum materials to our families. Families received the “All About Me” materials that families can use with their children. We are all about PreK-12 in IPSD.

Today, I was able to spend a little time with Ms Jacki Knowles a 2nd grade teacher at Longwood ES. She is here on the left with her principal Ms Ratner. Ms Knowles works hard to establish relationships with her children. She is in her second year with us. Exemplary teacher!

I was able to spend a little time today with Mr. Anthony Tegtmeyer one of our teachers at NV who has written a STEM book of activities for children. He was working with students today reviewing their learning about flight. We have a talented staff!

Two more IPSD students earned National Merit scholarships! Thomas Macon from Metea and Rachel Druce-Hoffman from Neuqua were awarded scholarships. We are very proud of these students. We now have a total of 18 Merit scholarship winners!

This morning at Metea, our Mustangs had a girls’ swim meet. It was great to see our girls compete. Win, lose, or draw, they competed with grit, determination, and school pride. They did their best. All of us should be proud of them!
Mustang Pride! Yesterday, I was able to meet our A+ Award winner Ms Alyssa Schneider a teacher at Metea HS. She teaches computer science and Algebra. She is focused on helping to make her classes relevant & ensuring strong relationships are forged with her students Outstanding!
Tonight our graduation ceremonies began at Wheatland Academy! Our students here demonstrated resiliency and flexibility which are important for their success in life. What an inspirational night!

Wildcat pride in A+ Award winner Mr Jason Verdin, literature teacher at Neuqua HS! His students said he helps them relate their readings to their lives. Mr Verdin is a 2006 graduate of NVHS and has taught his whole career there. It was my pleasure meeting him and his students.

Mustang pride A+ Award Winner Ms. Jennifer Torza who is a physical education teacher at Metea. Ms. Torza was nominated by a student she taught at middle school who is now with her at Metea. A native of New Mexico, Ms.Torza attributes her success to the team at Metea.
McCarty mustangs held a “Read Out!” today celebrating the books the students will take home for summer reading. Reading is fundamental, and today’s event supported our students’ love of reading. All K-5 students across the district will take home books this summer.
Many of our schools have been and continue to study “growth mindset”. This study focuses on the fact that individual talents are not set and can be developed through hard work. I applaud the work the schools are doing. Here is a picture from Kendall.

Flying high with Fischer A+ Award winner Ms. Caitlin DiBona! Ms. DiBona is an 8th Grade ELA teacher in her 8th year at the school. She started teaching in 203 but came to 204 for the “big job”as she put it. One of her students called her “amazing” today.
Science is on the move at Scullen due to A+ award winner Ms Ann Ketcherside! She went from being a TA to a science teacher hired by BOE President Mike Raczak when he was at Hill MS. Ms Ketcherside makes her science come alive for her children and connects with them!
Leadership Week started this morning with teams from all schools present at Metea to hear our guest speaker Dr. John Spencer. Great morning that begins our school year. Our theme this year is Opportunity.

Today, I was able to spend the last day with children at Brookdale ES. The year started with them ringing the bell, and it ended with them ringing the bell. Was able to call out the 5th graders! Children were excited about their summer books. Great summer to all!
The Wildcats of NV brought an end to our graduation season. It was a beautiful celebration that reflected the students’ joy, positive energy, and friendship. It was a wonderful ending to a glorious day of celebrating IPSD students!
