The KG students were the leaders of the ES Gathering. Their focus was one of ASIJ’s core values, Compassion. They had different roles and responsibilities. They did an amazing job speaking, singing, and presenting to the ES community. We are very proud of these brave risk-takers!

Read Around the World Day! Today we celebrated Read Around the World Day in Kindergarten by listening to a story read by our amazing First Grade Teacher, Ms. Reed. She read "The Three Snow Bears" by Jan Brett. A wonderful book, talented author and special day! @1noisylibrarian

In Japan, Setsubun is the day before the first day of spring. One of the customs is to make ehomaki (sushi rolls.) It's believed that if you make a wish while facing the "lucky direction," it will come true if you silently eat the entire sushi roll with your eyes closed.

Many Japanese children take part in the tradition of mochitsuki, the pounding of rice to make mochi. This is a special New Year’s treat that symbolises good fortune for the coming year. We spent the morning working with our local experts for a wonderful community building event.

Today the KG children visited the ASIJ Japan Center to learn about the Japanese New Year, Oshogatsu. The children continued this 150+ year old tradition to write New Year’s postcards, nengajo, to their families to give thanks, send love and wish them a wonderful New Year!
