For the next 50 years, it is not wrong to go back for what you forgot. 220 million people have been forgotten. They need to be included in an ECOWAS of the people. #PeoplesEcowas
Dr Penda Diallo notes that the majority of our youth see high unemployment across the ECOWAS region. Our universities are not teaching students innovative technologies that will equip them for the future, such as AI 1. There is a connection paradox 2. There is a resource paradox

When examining the continental free trade area and the Abuja treaty, it is evident that they are based on a gradual process. We should recognise that when African integration is achieved, regional groupings become redundant. #PeoplesEcowas
Prof El-Ghassim Wane says, "In my view, you cannot rely on economic integration alone; you need the institutional machinery to provide, mobilise resources and systems, basic rules for things to work. #PeoplesEcowas

Dr Babatunde Ofolabi notes that humans are not like “yams”; we don't grow anywhere. The activity of women and young people drives the political community. Passing through the various nations of West Africa, filling an economic void, and questioning the legacy of colonialism.

The massive infrastructure project encompasses transport, energy, and telecommunications. The Abuja-Lagos corridor highway is an example of why institutionalised regional arrangements are necessary.. #AfricanPublicSquare #ECOWASat50
Dr. Babatunde Afolabi notes that the primacy and centrality of the westphalian state as the building blocks of international systems is sacrosanct. States are the building blocks for regional organisations. States cannot function without rules, functions and norms. #ECOWASat50

Regional organisations once symbolised regional integration, but the roof has outgrown the house. Integration did not begin with bureaucracy, and it will not end without them. #ECOWASAT50
Dr Titilope Ajayi, the roof cannot uphold the house. Are regional organisations necessary? My argument is simple: they are not. #PeoplesEcowas #ECOWASat50

ECOWAS has always been a friend of civil society. Citizens are being called upon again to rise to the challenge. Citizens will have to determine which path we take, military dictatorships or people-centred approaches. We must discover our mission, either to fulfil it or betray it.
Amb. Abdel Fatau Musah @ecowas_cedeao notes ECOWAS evolution has been in 3 phases: 1. Cold War. Era - end in 1989 2. Era of New Liberalism, 1990 up until 2020 3.2020-present.
