What if activists aren’t PR firms for politicians & their demands are bc police budgets are exploding, community resources are shrinking to bankroll it, & ppl brought this up for ages but it wasn’t until they said “defund” that comfortable people started paying attn to brutality

The thing that critics of activists don’t get is that they tried playing the “polite language” policy game and all it did was make them easier to ignore.
It wasn’t until they made folks uncomfortable that there was traction to do ANYTHING even if it wasn’t their full demands.

The whole point of protesting is to make ppl uncomfortable.
Activists take that discomfort w/ the status quo & advocate for concrete policy changes. Popular support often starts small & grows.
To folks who complain protest demands make others uncomfortable... that’s the point.

We were aware of brutality when it was recorded on cell phones and distributed via social media. "Defund" was a bad choice of words because it implied "elimination" which was never the actual intent. "Reform" the police is more accurate.

The point is that it's a lie. "Defund the police", to most, doesn't mean "defund". It means to cut the budget and move the money to other organizations.
It's a more moderate policy wrapped in an extreme slogan. It's the worst political slogan in modern US history.

"Defund the police" is not a "mandate." Most of the Black folks who took to the streets to protest do not support that idea.
It was mostly pushed by non-Black activists trying to out-woke each other and co-opt our moment of pain and anger.

We can see now what happens when politicians encourage violence. Encouraged violence throughout 2020 and it resulted in the shameful and horrendous events at Capitol Hill. Never has there been a more despicable group of politicians than those that belong to the “squad”
