Asian clams are an invasive mollusk that can be found in our freshwater habitats and have a relatively thick shell compared to other bivalves. In areas with high populations of the species, these clams outcompete native freshwater mussels for food and space. #dewetlands

Happy #WildlifeWednesday of #AmphibianWeek! Why amphibians? They're sensitive to environmental stressors, making them a good indicator species. Many are also at risk for extinction. Enjoy these pics of a few from around the #DelawareRiver Basin. More info: https://t.co/xTSD4aw7Fy

While many are familiar with the larger species of the catfish family, Madtoms are very small and are rarely seen. Growing up to 3 inches in length, these vertebrates can easily hide under logs or swim through rocks in freshwater wetlands and habitats. #dewetlands

Happy #AmericanWetlandsMonth! Wetlands, next to a rainforest, are one of the most diverse and productive habitats on the planet. And here in the Chesapeake, they reduce pollution, limit flooding, harbor wildlife and make our parks all the more beautiful. https://t.co/f9p1KY1GpH

Wetlands are critical in supporting the healthy waters and diverse wildlife of the region. But development, invasive species and sea level rise threaten these important areas.
