The North-South runway is now open!

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) is currently closed to inbound flights due to a report of a security incident on an Asian-bound cargo flight. The flight was diverted to ANC early this morning. FBI and Anchorage Police are on scene and leading the investigation.
From the ‘60s through the ‘90s, ANC was a critical stopover for international flights. With our recently expanded passenger transfer rights, we are working to bring back international passengers again.

The world's largest cargo plane has made another trip through ANC. The Antonov Mriya, which can transport up to 50 cars at a time, landed at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday and departed at 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The N/S Terminals have sustained some cosmetic damage. Water mains were ruptured. All elevators and escalators are out of service. Electrical Power is working, and backup generators are on standby.

Snow removal during Alaska winters takes a tremendous toll on RWY and TWY markings. Today our elite Airfield Maintenance Team is painting new markings on the north-south runway, and conducting general maintenance and safety inspections.
