At the @UN_HRC’s 59th Session (#HRC59), ALQST and @GulfCentre4HR delivered an oral statement addressing the execution crisis in #SaudiArabia. So far this year, authorities have executed 181 individuals, including 118 for drug-related offences. Hundreds remain at imminent risk.

🕊️ Khaled al-Odah has been released after almost eight years of arbitrary imprisonment. He was arrested in 2017 after tweeting about the arrest of his brother Islamic cleric Salman al-Odah. Yet he remains under restrictions, including being forced to wear an electronic bracelet.

Seven years ago, #Saudi activist Khaled al-Omair was rearrested after filing a complaint about torture he endured during his 7-year sentence for peacefully protesting in support of Gaza. Instead of investigating, authorities sentenced him to 9 years in prison On April 2021.

🕊️Today, Abdulwahhab and Abdulrahman al-Dowaish were released after more than 3 years of detention, during which they were subjected to numerous violations. Meanwhile, their father, Suliman al-Dowaish, remains forcibly disappeared, and their brother Malek is still in detention.

📅 Fitness instructor Manahel al-Otaibi, sentenced by #Saudi authorities to 11 years in prison for peaceful activism, is due to appear in court for an appeal hearing tomorrow, Wednesday 25 June, at the SCC. ALQST encourages diplomats to request access to the trial.

🚨 The last remaining inhabitants of Al-Khuraiba village have been forced out of their home at gunpoint to make way for the #Neom project. They include the mother and sister of Abdul Rahim al-Huwaiti, who was shot dead in 2020 by #Saudi security forces.

Alaa dedicated her life to defending prisoners of conscience in the UAE and the Gulf, foremost among them her father Mohammed Al-Siddiq, who remains detained to this day despite his prison term having expired. She was also known for her defence of the Palestinian cause.

It's been four years since our dear colleague and prominent Emirati human rights defender Alaa Al-Siddiq tragically passed away, the day after her 33rd birthday. Her death leaves a huge void in our hearts, yet her devoted and courageous efforts for justice continue to inspire.

Yesterday, Waleed Abu al-Khair celebrated his 4️⃣6️⃣th birthday behind bars, the 12th birthday he has spent in prison. Waleed has been detained since April 2014 for his peaceful human rights activism. The Saudi authorities must #FreeWaleed now.
