Finally, our studies also added support to the “Two wave model” of reactive astrogliosis in Parkinson’s disease by highlighting disease-stage–dependent dynamic changes in tracer binding in PD brains at the end stages of the disease.

We also proposed an additional marker of reactive astrogliosis (+ neuroinflammation) in Parkinson’s brain i.e. ICAM-1 positive reactive astrocytes.

This study is the first time to show snapshot of reactive astrogliosis at the advanced/end stages of PD using a multiple astrocytic marker/tracer approach.
