Renormalisation is a central concept in modern physics. It describes how the dynamics of a system change at different scales. A great way to understand and visualise renormalisation is the Ising model (some math, but one can follow without it ) 1/13

Thrilled to celebrate the 6th PhD graduate from our lab, Dr. Emily Chen! 🎉 Emily's work elucidated how pore geometry & fluid rheology influence elastic instabilities of complex fluids in porous media. 🌊🌪️🔬 She now moves on to address problems in biological physics! 🦠

Out today @ScienceAdvances at https://t.co/Ahl7HUvEmn. We @YindingChi report a highly deforamable magnetic kirigami dome metasheet for dynamic shape shifting, yet strong enough for heavy non-magnetic object manipulation without grasping. We thank the funding support from @NSF.

What do #bacteria and #salmon have in common? They can both swim #upstream! We found that this motion against flows is enhanced in natural polymer fluid environments. Just published in PNAS!!! Congrats to Bryan, Albane, Ran, Quintin, and @ArratiaPaulo!!
