Day 13! We made it, it’s been a Championships with a lot of long nights but here we are on the final day and I couldn’t be prouder of the team and the effort and hard work the team have put in to get us to this point

It took longer than I anticipated but all measured out by hand and no stencil in sight, happy with how it turned out.
Proud to support those working on the frontline helping to combat this virus and care for those who need it.

And none of this would of been possible without the long hours and hard work put in by these guys, the Groundstaff and Horticultural team have been phenomenal in bringing

Bit of an emotional day as we wish a happy retirement to Mark Sheather who joined the club in 1971 & after 50 years service as a member of the grounds team, Deputy Head Groundsman & Senior Groundsman through his time. He’s been a mentor & friend to many and will be missed loads
Words cannot express the deep sadness of the news this morning of the passing of our former Head Groundsman Eddie Seaward, He did so much for the industry but more importantly what an inspiration he was as a boss, mentor and friend to myself and many many more
#RIP
The news that The Championships has been cancelled is the right call for the uncertainty of where we will be with this virus over the next few months. The safety of all involved be that staff, players or spectators has to be paramount.
We’ll be back with the best courts for 2021
It’s not been the greatest weather to start the year and that meant a delay to our opening of the grass courts but I can’t thank the team enough for the effort and commitment they’ve put in to get us to today and finally opening for members
#Wimbledon
Can not stress enough how amazing the team have been in preparing the courts ahead of schedule, great work over the last couple of weeks bringing the height down, rolling, marking out, spraying, edging, weeding and everything else
#GreatWork
#TeamWork
Courts all mown and marked yesterday and set up today for a club match, great work from the team recently getting courts available whenever possible for the members to enjoy
Over 80 hours of play on this court in the last fortnight, consistent high temps putting the grass under stress too but it still looks amazing. Couldn’t be prouder &. happier with the team & all the work they’ve put in to producing these courts

A week away from what would be the start of the 2020 Championships and we’re just putting lines down on Centre, this is where everything starts to feel a bit surreal with not having the tournament
Two days without a cut and a bit of rain around and the mushrooms have sprouted up, the boys have said not to make a joke which is a shame because I thought I was a fungi
These really are unprecedented times, not to often we see
@nstubley
behind a bit of kit these day but it’s a lot rarer we see those legs out (or more importantly they see the sun)
#TippexLegs
#BossOnTheTools
Courts mown and marked out today ahead of the last day of practice on Championships Courts and a special photo shoot on Centre Court, 2 weeks today the first of these will be claimed but by who?

As we come towards the end of
@thegma_
#GroundsWeek
we’re looking forward at
@Wimbledon
as we’re 100 days away from this years Championships and we can’t wait to have the courts prepared and ready for another great tournament
Recently I’ve been asked a lot about how it feels from a groundstaff perspective of not having a championships on the courts we produce so here’s a blog to answer just that, hopefully you’ll enjoy and maybe I can do more in the future
I’m what has been an uncertain week, I can do no more than thank the team for their efforts and diligence in carrying on essential maintenance whilst sticking to social distancing guidelines, the team have taken this all on board and worked incredibly well
#TopTeam
Great to do a tidy up of Wimbledon War Memorial ahead of the
#RemembranceSunday
service.
Double mow, edged & moss removed, looking good for all those coming up to remember those who have served the country over many wars and years
#LestWeForget
Centre Court renovated over the last couple of days. Scarified, spiked, preventative fungicide, seeded, fertilised, covered and irrigated. Soon be back green and we’ll start maintaining through to next year
#Renovations
Not the weather we wanted to start day 1 but the team have done amazing work getting courts mown and marked in preparation for play
#teamworkmakesthedreamwork
Wishing everyone a happy new year as we head in to 2022, can’t wait to be back here and preparing courts for you to enjoy The Championships, who do you think will be triumphant in 2022?
End of an era for the tented cover on Centre Court, after the court surround redevelopment post championships we’ll be going to an inflatable ballon cover

Well the team here did exceptionally well and as of writing had amassed £1,930 in
@MovemberUK
donations. Well over the £1,800 I said would kick in the forfeit so here we go

Shortest day of the year and my last day at work for 2018, it’s been a weird year weather wise but a hugely successful year for the courts with the tournament and 150th anniversary of the club, the courts are looking good going into 2019 too so we’re very happy
