Romance tv series adaptations need the buy in from fans that romance books series have had from readers forever. The individual romances are secondary to the series as a whole and really it’s closer to an anthology than a continuous story.

The reason historical romance did not get the boost people expected from Brodgerton’s success was a fundamental misunderstanding of this concept by fans. Bridgerton fans aren’t romance genre fans they’re shippers. It’s fine-it’s even good for tv. It’s just bad for romance.
