Sounds like Cutter Gauthier refused to speak to John LeClair and Patrick Sharp.
Was said to have wanted nothing to do with anyone in the
#Flyers
organization.
Sounds like the Flyers have very high interest in Ryan Leonard at 7th overall.
The team met with Matvei Michkov today, and while they still really like him, there's a sense that Leonard has surpassed him internally.
#fueledbyphilly
The
#Flyers
signed Brassard, Thompson and Yandle for a combined $2.525 million. After tonight, I really don't see how you can be upset about any of those three being part of this team.
#BringItToBroad
With Krug not expected to budge on waiving his NTC, it sounds like it may just be Kevin Hayes going to the
#stlblues
.
I wouldn't expect a lot back if this is the case; would be more or less a salary dump.
#FueledByPhilly
Hearing that the
#Flyers
are set to meet with Matvei Michkov early next week.
They are "seriously considering" taking him at 7 if he's available, I'm told.
#fueledbyphilly
Sounds like the plan is for Ivan Fedotov to start with the
#Flyers
right away; Alexei Kolosov will report to the
@LVPhantoms
.
Timeline for both players arriving is uncertain at this point.
The
#Flyers
had three picks in the top 35 of the 2017 NHL Draft:
#2
Nolan Patrick
#27
Morgan Frost
#35
Isaac Ratcliffe
Jason Robertson went
#39
to the Dallas Stars.
The 2017 Draft will haunt this organization for a long, long time.
#fueledbyphilly
While nothing is imminent, I'm told the
#Flyers
are looking at some players on the waiver wire.
Nick Foligno and Wayne Simmonds are both possible names.
I'm told that PHI is exploring ways to flip Ryan Johansen. They are willing to retain 50% on his remaining $4M AAV and make him a $2M player.
#LetsGoFlyers
Patrick Sharp will be heavily involved with the
#Flyers
' young players, I'm told.
PHI is clearly taking the player developmental problems over the last number of years seriously and directly addressing it.
#fueledbyphilly
NHL told PHI that Tortorella set a dangerous precedent by refusing to leave the bench.
But fair to question the handling by the officials - a rookie who struggled dealing with an emotional game and a veteran who felt pressure to take control & (possibly) overreacted.
As many have already reported, the hold up in the STL/PHI is a player not waiving his NTC.
Initial trade included a defenseman from either team moving, but it sounds like a part of the deal may have fallen apart.
#stlblues
#FueledByPhilly
Nothing done yet, but it sounds like talks between PHI and prospect Massimo Rizzo are trending towards a contract being finalized.
He will report to LV when it gets done.
Sounds like the initial deal between STL/PHI is completely dead in the water.
Expectation is still for Kevin Hayes to end up in STL, but the deal would be nothing more than a salary dump. I'd expect it to be at close to 50% retention, as well.
#FueledByPhilly
#stlblues
As mentioned on
@hockeynight
yesterday, there has been a lot of interest on
#Flyers
forward Scott Laughton.
PHI has turned down late first round picks in offers for Laughton, which is indicative of how much they value the player.
#fueledbyphilly
Based on conversations I've had this AM, there seems to be a sense that MTL (as has been documented at length recently) has strong interest in Ryan Leonard while AZ are looking hard at David Reinbacher.
If this is the case, Matvei Michkov will likely be available to PHI at
#7
.
Some things I want to get off my chest:
This has been a brutal year for anyone who has covered/cheered for the
#Flyers
. I'd argue it has been the worst season in the last 25 years, including the 06/07 debacle. Never have expectations been so high with the result being so poor.
PHI is expecting some teams to circle back on Scott Laughton after Jake Guentzel is moved. Price is still the same (1st RD pick) but with most top forwards off the board some teams may get desperate and up what they're willing to part with.
#LetsGoFlyers
Despite the Provorov deal, which was prioritized, it still sounds like Hayes to
#cbj
is a possibility.
There have been discussions since the season ended and were primarily focused on the retention amount on Hayes' salary.
I'd expect the talks to be revisited.
#FueledByPhilly
PHI has been willing to listen o Hart and have made it known they're willing to take on unideal contracts (Campbell?) for the right price.
Is there a fit with EDM?
In addition to other movers, it sounds like PHI is willing to operate as a 3rd party broker and weaponize their cap space. After getting full relief for Carter Hart, they project to have almost $9M by the TD.
They can open up an additional $6.25M by shifting Ryan Ellis to LTIR.
It has been out there for a day or so now, but EDM has shown "decent" interest in Travis Konecny.
Not sure what an exact return could look like, but I've heard Philip Broberg's name tossed around.
#fueledbyphilly
Have seen it mentioned already, but there is a belief by some that the CAR and STL deals are connected in some fashion.
One person wondered if it had to do with salary retention.
Certainly interesting that both deals are in a holding pattern simultaneously.
#FueledByPhilly
Hearing the
#Flames
have expressed interest in Travis Sanheim.
Not sure if a deal ultimately gets done but they've been circulating.
I wonder if swapping first round picks was in play, too.
#FueledByPhilly
As OTT looks to free up cap space, they have continued to look at options to move the contract of Mathieu Joseph and the 3 yrs (2.95M AAV) remaining on his deal.
According to several league sources, the belief is that it will take a 1st RD pick or a prospect equivalent to do so.
Was told by a GM last night that drafting Matvei Michkov is too big of a risk for the
#Flyers
to take.
Will be very interesting to see how it all unfolds tonight.
#FueledByPhilly
The
#Flyers
' identity as a franchise had been declining since Mr. Snider's death but completely faded into the abyss when Paul Holmgren left. I've only been following this team religiously for 15 yrs, but this franchise is a shell of its former self.
#anytimeanywhere
The
#Flyers
have $15.5M tied up in Travis Konecny, Oskar Lindblom and JVR next season.
Two, if not all three, of those players need to be cleared off the books if they have any hope of adding a top-six C and/or top line winger.
#BringItToBroad
Given the circumstances, I don't think the
#Flyers
could have done much better with the Giroux trade.
That being said, having wasted the career of a franchise-top 5 player and not getting much back for him, fans have every right to be upset.
Tough day in Philly.
#BringItToBroad
The
#Flyers
like Johnny Gaudreau a lot but I'm told they are having a hard time seeing how they can fit him in because of the cap.
The cost to unload JVR is "ridiculous" right now. Can't say for certain but, speculatively speaking, i imagine teams are asking for the FLA 1st.
The
#GoBolts
have been exploring the D market again lately, speaking with several teams in both conferences about their available defencemen. In a perfect world, they’d like to add a D before the deadline.
As Ant mentions here, the
#Flyers
are looking at different options with Travis Sanheim.
The Winnipeg Jets are one of the teams PHI has had discussions with, I'm told.
#FueledByPhilly
#gojetsgo
All right... I'm back from my event. You've already heard from others about Krug exercising his right to not waive his NTC.
The Flyers are pivoting on Sanheim now looking to other teams. I know Toronto has been mentioned, but I've just been told at the time, they haven't spoken.
Everyone is here at morning skate aside from Sean Couturier and Jamie Drysdale.
Both players missed the last two games — Couturier an undisclosed injury, Drysdale an illness.
John Tortorella wouldn't say if either would return tonight.
Expect the
#Flyers
to add a depth centre by Wednesday or Thursday.
I'm told that Nick Bonino and Derek Stepan are two names being taken into consideration in this regard.
#anytimeanywhere
I always knew that the return wasn't going to be huge for JVR, but walking away with absolutely nothing to show for it is flat out unacceptable.
I'm honestly in shock of how a slam dunk trade chip ultimately went for nothing.
#FueledByPhilly
PHI has explored ways to move off of Petersen but have found no takers (even at 50% retention) - today's game is indicative of why.
If you're moving off of Petersen between now and next season it's via a buyout.
#LetsGoFlyers
I understand the frustration w/ the Hayes deal, but unfortunately the Flyers had zero leverage after the Ryan Johansen trade. NAS got less for a superior and younger player.
PHI tried to get value for Hayes but their hands were tied after Johansen went for what he did at 50%.
In addition to the injury, there is a growing concern of Ellis' willingness to be around the team.
According to a source, Ellis has not been seen around the team in over 3 weeks.
There are some in Hockey Ops who are still not entirely sure what the issue is.
#bringittobroad
Contract negotiations w/ Walker and PHI have gained traction. While the two sides seem to be close on an AAV, the term is a point of contention.
Player's camp is pushing for 5 years - something the team is reluctant to do at this point.
I'd like to thank everyone for all the love and support today.
It will not be forgotten and I'm forever grateful for you trusting me to bring you information 🙏.
Now that the dust has started to settle on the Provorov deal, I guess we can all agree that teams around the league to still see value in the player.
PHI got extra assets for taking on contracts but, by how I'm seeing it, they got a 1st and 2nd for Provorov.
#fueledbyphilly
Speaking with sources close to the situation in Philly, the
#Flyers
are seemingly out on Alex DeBrincat.
Barring a major change over the next 30 hours or so, PHI will more than likely be making their selection at
#5
.
More re. Fedotov:
Two yrs is not a huge commitment and lines up perfectly w/ Ersson deal. PHI has a combined $4.7M committed to their goaltending duo until 2026 - not expensive at all.
Fedotov wanted more years and PHI fought hard to keep it to just two.
While a definitive plan has not yet been put into place, I'm led to believe that Danny Briere is a serious candidate to be the next General Manager of the Philadelphia
#Flyers
.
But changes are definitely happening.
#fueledbyphilly
With Monahan going for a 1st RD pick + (following the Lindholm) deal, it was reiterated to me that PHI is looking for a 1st in return for Laughton.
2 league executives believe this is a fair ask for Laughton given where the C market has been set.
Laughton is also not a rental.
Cam Atkinson is on pace for 36 goals and ~57 pts.
I know Voracek is playing well this season for
#cbj
but I still make that trade 10/10 times.
A good "hockey" deal for both sides and an example that a trade doesn't have to be a rip off to be worth making.
#bringittobroad
To add to this, I was told by a Western Conference team this AM they expect a Walker trade sooner rather than later.
I don't get the sense that PHI has an appetite for the contract the player is looking for.
Depending who you talk, some GMs & team staff believe
#LetsGoFlyers
are more likely to trade RD Sean Walker than keep/extend him. We'll see. As of noon ET, still no formal contract talks bw the two sides. If he's dealt, does Philly move him separately or packaged with Seeler?
On the Pinto/PHI talk discussed on 32T:
The Flyers did make an offer. It would've seen Mathieu Joseph come back (along w/ Pinto) as a salary dump.
The ball is seemingly in OTT's court and PHI has kind of moved on; they "aren't expecting back" , at this moment.
I know the Fedotov AAV is higher than expected, but the contract was agreed upon prior to the player coming over from Russia.
I'm told that the contract had to be a certain number to get Fedotov to come to North America.
Not ideal, but understandable given the circumstances.
As mentioned by
@FriedgeHNIC
on
@hockeynight
, there are two teams interested in acquiring both Seeler and Walker. I wonder about
#TexasHockey
, who have been linked to Walker, per
@TheFourthPeriod
.
I'm told the price to acquire both defensemen is a 1st and 2nd round pick.
