London is moving ahead with a max heat bylaw—but it only covers units that already have A/C. Low-income tenants in the hottest buildings are left out. These are exactly the homes where seniors, newcomers & low-income families face deadly heat.

ACORN rallied at BC Minister Dix’s office to demand they stop subsidizing natural gas, and start funding ACs. BC is pouring billions into LNG. When ACORN found the office unexpectedly closed, we were told staff opted to WFH rather than meet with us. Shame.

Developers are demolishing affordable rentals in Brampton and replacing them with luxury units. For every one affordable home built in Canada, fifteen are lost. Demovictions are driving this crisis. Peel ACORN is demanding a Rental Replacement Bylaw. https://t.co/MqqEDp9gkO

Cooling rooms are no substitute for in-unit protections. In 2021, 619 people died during BC’s heat dome. Toronto cannot risk the same. We need a Maximum Heat Bylaw with a 26°C cap in every rental unit. See our coalition letter to the City of Toronto:
