NEW: Late Friday night, a federal judge blocked the Trump administration's unlawful and cruel fast-track deportation policy. This win is a blow to the president's anti-immigrant agenda. This ruling is a vital reminder that due process is not optional.

The president and Congress have extraordinary power to micromanage D.C. because we are not legally recognized as a state. We need people of conscience across the country to join us in the fight for D.C. Statehood:

President Trump signed an executive order trying to end DC's long-standing common-sense cash bail reforms. It is our constitutional right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. Pretrial detention does the opposite — it treats certain people as guilty until proven innocent.

If officers ask to look inside your car, you can refuse to consent. But if police generally believe that your car contains evidence of a crime, it can be searched without consent.
