The Allegheny County Health Department has been closely monitoring air quality in and around Clairton following this morning’s incident at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works. No County Air Quality monitors have recorded an exceedance since the incident.

Out of an abundance of caution, residents within one mile of the plant should remain indoors, close all windows and doors, set HVAC systems to recirculate, and avoid activities that draw in outside air. (2/3).

With @NWS predicting high temperatures and humidity in the coming days, @Allegheny_Co is declaring a Code Red starting Sunday. Extra cooling centers will be opened in the City of Pittsburgh and other municipalities across the county.

I look forward to working with them, the unions who represent their workers, and the host communities as a team to both honor the commitments in the agreement and do whatever is necessary to advance the development of a new, modern mill right here in Western Pennsylvania. (3/3).

Statement from County Executive Innamorato on Finalized Deal between US Steel and Nippon: . As one of the largest employers in Allegheny County, we welcome the news that Nippon has finalized the deal with US Steel to keep steel jobs here in Western PA for decades to come. (1/3).

More rain and storms are expected Sunday and Monday, and flash flooding may occur again. Where possible, make sure storm grates and downspouts are clear and creeks are flowing free from obstruction to minimize the chance of additional flooding with coming rain. 6/6.

Allegheny County will be a partner in the clean up & assessment work with municipal partners & the Red Cross. The Dept of Public Works is also active today, assessing damage & response support as needed with the municipalities that experienced flooding & storm damage. 5/6.

There are multiple reports of landslides and Allegheny County Emergency Services is working to confirm locations and extent. Today the work in the impacted communities is focused on clean up and damage assessment. 4/6.

At least 3 rescues were made from 2 homes in North Versailles and 1 rescue was made from a vehicle in flood waters on Route 48 in White Oak. Water rescue teams concluded their work last night. There are no reports of serious injuries or fatalities at this time. 3/6.
