Dr. Melissa Mialon in her presentation mentioned that there is a need to address corporate influence on public policies in order to ensure a healthy environment. Promoting industry transparency and ensuring good management are key, she added.

Dr. Semnen Lambert and her team from Nigeria mentioned that effective food policies are essential to increase the healthiness of the food environment and reduce the burden of NCDs.

Milka Njeri mentioned that less healthy foods are mostly advertised as compared to healthy ones and this influences parent's food choices. Children pay keen attention to advertisements; use them as an avenue to promote healthy food, she added.

#FERN2023Highlights There is increased TV marketing of unhealthy foods, beverages alcoholic beverages in Sub-Saharan Africa and this is leading to increased cases of Non-communicable diseases in Africa.
