Recovering from something like a shoulder replacement is in itself a balancing act. You want to return to some level of activity and you have to be mindful not to try too much too quick. #agingshouldntsuck #balancetraining #shoulderreplacementrecovery #afriendlynudge

This is an exercise that’ll be in this week’s A Friendly Nudge, my weekly video newsletter on SubStack. It’s caleed a tandem balance and it’s a lot more challenging than I expected. #afriendlynudge #agingshouldntsuck #balancetraining #abalancedyou

Joint replacement is definitely major surgery but I’m beyond pleased with what the recovery process has been like. I definitely wasn’t as prepared as I could have been but Jude has been a huge help. So glad I finally moved forward with this. #agingshouldntsuck

I take my arm out the sling when I do a physical therapy exercise called table slides but other than that if I’m up moving around or sleeping my arms the sling. Can’t wait to do sink squats again. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #sinksquats

Nothing helps you appreciate the importance of strength and mobility like major surgery. Had my shoulder replaced about a week and a half ago and I’m feeling grateful for how my recovery is going. #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #mobility

I posted this video over 3 years ago on TikTok and it launched my daily exercise snacks. I hope things get worked out. I love the community that it helped me build. #agingshouldntsuck #exercisesnacks

I wanted to thank everyone for the kind words and get well wishes. It must be working because my new shoulder is incredibly well behaved. #agingshouldntsuck

Shoulder replacement is like everything else I’ve ever dreaded, my imagination conjures up something a lot more gnarly than the actual experience. The second day was brutal but every day since has gotten better. #agingshouldntsuck #shoulderreplacement #shoulderreplacementrecovery

I talked yesterday about the necessity of strong glutes and the fact that lots of sitting isn’t doing us any favors when it comes to glute strength. I’d shoot for a couple of sets of 10. But don’t worry if 5 is all you have, start there and increase as you get stronger.

I’m always a sucker for the various fitness test and this is one I saw recently for testing glute strength. Single leg glute bridges are great but tomorrow I’ll post regular glute bridges. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge

Sometimes I forget that someone may be seeing a particular video of mine without having seen the previous ones that I’ve posted. It’s critical that you start where you are and don’t try to do too much too soon. The beauty of exercise is that it doesn’t get easier but instead you

This is a great exercise to help build core stability, it’s in today’s A Friendly Nudge and it’s called the Pallof Press. The band is trying to twist you sideways and you build core strength by resisting it. #afriendlynudge #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

Starting a new habit is always challenging so I’ve broken exercising down into more manageable snacks. It’s why I call it A Friendly Nudge, because most of us need a little encouragement to keep us heading in the right direction. #agingshouldntsuck

This one works your glutes and your balance. If you need a chair beside you for extra support please do so. You want to do this with each side. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #afriendlynudge #balancework

Happy New Year and Hook’em Horns. My execution of this hip mobility exercise looks a little sloppy- similar to my Longhorns, but sometimes you’re just thankful for the win and a chance to get better. #hookem #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #happynewyear

Strong glutes are essential regardless of age but especially for those of us that are classic vintages. Resiliency is also non-negotiable. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we’re more durable than we think. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #afriendlynudge

My suggestions for all of the folks starting the New Year with new exercise plans: ease in and be patient with yourself. Ambitious expectations are great but don’t quit in frustration when you have a set back, it’s a marathon instead of a sprint. #agingshouldntsuck

Exercise isn’t optional if we want to age more on our terms. But we have to find ways to make it doable. Yoga blocks, folded up blankets, balance staffs, all of these can help make it more accessible. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck #afriendlynudge #mobility

Wall sits are a great beginning exercise. They aren’t easy but they let you start with just a few seconds and add more time as you get stronger. Hinge at your hips and push off with your hands against the wall to stand up. Start with 10 seconds. #agingshouldntsuck

Learning something unfamiliar is challenging and sometimes it’s really frustrating. It’s OK to stuggle a little if you can do it safely. Figure out how to get off the ground before it becomes an issue. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare #mobility #afriendlynudge
