Bavaria is a source of German stereotypes, while in #Germany its considered the least German of the Bundesländer. This makes it hard to describe to non-Germans. While some make comparisons with Texas, perhaps a better example can be found in the UK? https://t.co/HLHjdAdg2J

Can anyone really say they’re surprised? The CDU under Merz was always going to go in this direction for the simple reason they have no solutions to Germany’s problems.

That's what Germany needs more division brought to you by out of touch, extremely wealthy politicians.

Friedrich Merz sagt, bei Abschiebungen gehe es nicht um Kriminalität oder Sozialbetrug sondern ums „Stadtbild“. Na dann, alles klar. Ganz entspannt.

Conservative politicians like to say they believe in meritocracy but if you suggest that £10m per child might be an adequate inheritance they call you insane

I'm sick and tired of all the division on this platform, so let's all come together and agree on this simple and inescapable truth: Bienenstich is obviously the best cake in Germany.

Weird, because I’m certain Söder had no problem sharing a stage with the AfD back in 2023 when the right-wing were pretending Wärmepumpen were going to destroy Germany. Poor leadership is also destroying Germany.

Britain & #Germany have their obsessions over food and drink. For one it’s bread, while for the other it’s tea, and they’re both certain the other never gets it right. Is Germany bad at making a cuppa, and is British bread so ripe for ridicule? Blog Post: https://t.co/Oy8K4yBFtp

There's no hatred stronger than a German right-wing politician's hatred for building any kind of infrastructure.

How Germany changed me: 2011 - held door open for someone who strode through without saying "Danke". My British brain seethed in silence. 2025 - Held door open, no "Danke" forthcoming, sarcastically shout "Danke!" and then "Gerne!" as they walk away. German brain celebrates.

Tchibo is famous throughout #Germany for coffee, and a weekly revolving selection of useless product. How does Tchibo manage to succeed when no one is entirely sure what they might be selling or why they're selling it? Blog Post: https://t.co/gfWLX6cAti

One quirk of Bavarian public holidays is how they're super regional. When Augsburg has a city wide holiday, but you work in Munich, you're going to work my friend. However, if you work in Augsburg, but live in Munich, well, that's more breakfast beer for you!

I prosecute and defend the most serious sexual offences in our courts. The overwhelming majority of offenders are British-born. Overwhelmingly the victim is someone known to them, either a partner or relative. Anybody purporting to care about protecting women might start there.

Sunday trading is contentious in #Germany. Some see it as a way to boost the economy, others as an attack on the rights of workers and a particular way of life. Should shops open on Sundays or is it a slippery slope to 24/7 consumerism? Blog Post: https://t.co/B672Iaove3

My first months in Germany, I asked my wife the name of these sweets. She replied "keine Ahnung" (no idea). Not speaking German, I assumed "keine Ahnung" was a brand. This led to some frustrating conversations: Me: Can you get some sweets? Wife: Which ones? Me: keine Ahnung.

The most interesting thing about the German psyche is a desire to avoid uncertainty. It’s why planning has always been a stereotype. Avoiding uncertainty is one reason why Germany decided on austerity in 2010. The irony is austerity has led to more uncertainty about the future.

Germany is racking up big deficits while squeezing discretionary spending; the economy is flatlining while modest calls for labour/welfare/pension reform encounter giant shitstorms. Perhaps this will turn out to be the darkness before dawn, but the bear case isn't hard to grasp.

I'm sick and tired of all the division on this platform, so let's all come together to agree on something: Butterkäse is a rather depressing substance, and Germany would be a better place if we all just pretended it didn't exist.
