Bowling station.
So you think it's just a little rainfall. So armchair experts can you tell me if the ballast is still secure and that the track hasn't moved? Go on then. This is why Network Rail take the decision to suspend trains.
Yesterday's shift had quite an Impact on me. On the second part of my double trip near Oxwellmains I caught sight of a person standing trackside on the down main. Train stopped and line blocked. Something in my gut told me this wasn't just a trespasser.
Just remember I'd sooner listen to your story than read your obituary. The consequences of possibly ignoring my gut instinct my have led to a horrific outcome affecting more people.
No one is alone and help is there for you.
22nd anniversary today since I left Brown Brothers and joined the Railway.
1999 with GNER as a Steward and just under 2 yrs later progressed onto the footplate and now 20 Yrs Driving! What will the next 22 yrs bring 🤔. Still enjoying every minute of it.
My train may have been delayed by 63 mins but I'd sooner have followed my gut instinct than find out they had stepped in front of another train. I hope this person is getting the help and care they deserve.
So the ECML is now flooded quite badly at Killingworth (not my pic).
Do not give our staff platform facing or soc media teams any grief as it is way out of their control.
It would be rude not to accept an invitation into the cab of the
@Amtrak
Acela by the crew at Moynihan Train Hall, Pennsylvania Station. Safe travel to the Engineer and Conductor onwards tonight and a heartfelt thanks from one Train Driver to another.
Yesterday we had an serious incident on the line. A lorry crashed onto the mainline. Now, the line speed is 125 mph both ways, 25,000 volt OHLE above, 3 bridges very close together.
First time I'm the 18 yrs driving to Aberdeen and I finally see the Northern Lights. Quick buzz to the TM and he took this photo from the rear non active cab and sent the photo onto to me.
Spectacular! Between Arbroath and Montrose.
Today I will be thinking about my friend Graeme Wright as he is laid to rest. Taken far too soon. Rest in peace matey
@redleaderwright
. Thanks for the chats and the laughs between duties in the ECML it won't be the same 😔
19 yrs 11 months. Sadly our eldest cat Mikey slipped away earlier this evening. Our hearts are absolutely broken.
Over the Rainbow bridge you go sweetheart. Till we meet again 😢😔
My 3am breakfast companion on early shift. I'll miss the nose rubs mate.
Not a bad mornings spare turn. Finally got a close up of XC's retro liveried power car 43184. Of course the obligatory photo in the big seat had to be done 😁
Water building up on the DOWN main cess at Pease Lye heading towards Cockburnspath. 1w02 was carrying out line inspection. Video taken from the rear non-active cab whilst travelling pass back to Waverley.

October 17th 2000 sitting on a Mark IV set in King's Cross before heading back to Edinburgh with the 1300 and the dreadful news started to filter down to our on-board crew. 23 yrs later and we we still remember those lost on this day.
Rest in peace Newcastle Driver John Fairhurst. It was an absolute pleasure to work with you and blether on the platforms during handovers.
Greens all the way Drive!
Gone but not forgotten.
This is what makes my job very special. Having followed their adventures on this platform (no pun) and seeing their enthusiasm for their hobby is great to see. I'm sure both their dads were glad for a sit down after yesterday's spotting adventures.
My favourite photo from yesterday has to be this 😄 Austin in disbelief as

Dec 20th 2019. The "Let's go round again" HST Farewell Edinburgh to Leeds. One of the best days of my career as a Driver. Was it really that long ago?

A few more inside photos of the transformation of the power cars. Having the Thunderbird based at Craigentinny during that time made it possible to watch the whole process from full rub down to finished paint job.
Finishing touches on the way for 43006. One of the best retro repaints in my opinion. (Not that I'm bias in any way) stencil lettering and Double Arrows to be applied.
Whilst I had 10 mins waiting in Beattock Summit up loop on Tuesday I thought I'd grab a quick photo of 801214 5M04 in the glorious sunshine. Photo from position of safety and phone switched off and back in kit bag afterwards.
When you tell people outside the Railway you start at 0359 they say "What trains run at that time in the morning?". We'll this one does. 3e03 0426 Edin to Stirling to form 1e03 0526 Stirling to London. I got as far as Newcastle then back to edin.
We had a TPE set draw up to the steps and I told this person we would get her onto this train and take her to Dunbar to be met by specialist welfare officers and get her the help they desperately needed.
28th February 2001 a dark day on the ECML. I will never forget standing on the doors at 1st class on P11 Waverley when the messages came through that one of ours was "Off the road" little did we know the true extent of the carnage. RIP.
After an Hour of talking I managed to get this poor soul open up. This person had done nothing wrong and I made sure they knew this. I listened on a very non judgemental way with sympathy.
I climb the steps and saw the person sitting with their head in their hands. I simply said to this person "Are you okay" at this point I knew this person had only one thought. I then began to talk to this person and try my best to settle them down.
Rest in peace, Micky Herman.
One of the ECMLs finest. Heartbroken to hear the news you passed away. One of the characters from Ncl depot.
Rest easy mate 😢
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!
Please can some outside the Railway industry stop having a go at the Rail Operators about using leaves on the line as a flimsy excuse.
I'd love to see those who think it is nonsense to actually control a high speed train,
Two years ago since I drove my final Class 91 into Edinburgh and of course it was 91119 alongside classmate 91124 in Platforms 5 and 6 Waverley. Good times.
I made my way back to the area the person was standing at and as I got closer I noticed this person was in a distressed state. I called out asking if they were okay and they scrambled up the engineers steps on the embankment.
Now normally once clear of the line I'd call the signaller and inform them the person was line clear of the line and lift the block but my gut said no.
@YouGov
Well that 12% can go and sit the sim assessments and rules, traction and route questions I've just sat through to renew my Safety Critical Card. 5 mins in the Train Drivers seat in the thickest fog and they would soon realise how intense it can get.
1e15 back from Aberdeen today and annual leave tomorrow. Tomorrow marks my 22nd year as a Driver on the ECML and 19yrs working to Aberdeen and although I've had 5 TOCs in that time my trusty GNER lodge bag is still going strong.
28th Dec 2019 "The Final Final" HST drive for me. The Craigentinny Staff Charter 1z25. Edinburgh back to Edinburgh via the Edin Suburban and Fife Circle. I must ask about how to get a replica of that headboard.
Day 7 of 7 and the end of this weeks work for this Mainline Driver.

1E01 the 0540 "Flying Scotsman" service to London Kings Cross ready for the "OFF"
Good morning all. I thought I'd start off today by clarifying why I take pictures in and around the railway. I am very lucky to be able to get to locations that many other are not permitted to. When I take my pictures Iake absolutely sure that it is safe.
84 years ago Driver Joe Duddington turned his cap around and Fireman Tommy Bray stoked the fire and pushed her to the limit and placed 4468 MALLARD into the record books.
3rd July 1938 Mallard hit 126 mph on Stoke Bank the rest is history
When your mother offers space to put items from my home in preparation for our impending house move she didn't bet on me dropping off the nose end door from Power Car 43305 😆. The look on her face was priceless 😆😆
One day late but some images from the "Let's go round again" HST Farewell tour.

A cast of many joined this trip and every min was just brilliant. My bias opinion this is one of the best retro repaints.
