Very good thread. With sync engines you get a lot of new creative ways to make UI better. For exapmple cache top 1000 things from your db to make search instant most if the time.

Let's talk preloading. It's a crucial consideration for synced apps. Some preloading is needed for instant UI, but too much slows down app startup. How do we pick the right subset of data to preload?. 🧵….

Awesome (as usual) video from Science Click The story of color spaces, physical and psychological intricacies of color perception, and invention of the totally new color.

Bonus point: super friendly to skeptics like me, who often don’t like what they actually write and don’t want it to do any modifications!.

Just realized that it is possible to use AI-code tools like Claude cli to find something in a code base. Works very well when you vaguely remember piece of code you want to find (for ex. “regexp that does A” which is particularly painful to cmd+f).

It's Pancake Day! Time to EAT PANCAKES in HONOR OF MACHIAVELLI!. What do pancakes have to do with the founder of modern political science?. Our boy Nick was obsessed with pancakes! & wrote about them in his "Art of War" Why pancakes? He'd been studying the ancients of course! 1/?

IVM go brr. Darick is implementing a stress test of @zero__ms's replication path. The script on the right is updating by writing directly to Postgres. This is replicating into zero-cache and syncing to the client.

The most interesting things are happening now in getting data to a client (sync engines, RSC) and routing/meta-frameworks (Next, Tanstak Start, etc). I believe the next revolution is out there somewhere, not in a rendering framework alone.

The problem with Svelte/Solid is that even if they are better, it is by a little bit. It is not enough to make a phase transition like it was when everything went from mostly jQuery to mostly React. React is good enough.

Curiously, my GraphQL extension for @zeddotdev editor is quite popular with 22k downloads. Looks like, GraphQL is still a thing in 2024.

Local-first like responsiveness and DX for any app without all the complications of going full Local First - a pragmatic approach that really resonates with me. This is super interesting (as always with Rocicorp stuff)! Can’t wait to try it somewhere.

Just got off stage* at @localfirstconf where I shared Zero:. The web today is facing a complexity crisis. It's way too hard to build a halfway decent web app and near impossible to build a good one. Sync engines solve this in theory, but current sync.
