Watching this one very closely. Alt launches have not had a good time this year. Market conditions are good ATM though. And there is actual revenue behind the token.

AI is so good at pixel art. Still a long way to go for full 3d games. But I honestly believe these kind of experience will create new viral games fast. And then with easy monetisation via blockchain everyone can become a game dev. Gigachains like Somnia will back this.

Fortnite’s development took 6+ years before it's breakout battle royale mode came out. Roblox was launched in 2004 and didn’t catch significant traction until the late 2010s. Success doesn't happen overnight. It takes time, focus and an ability to stay in the game.

Somnia tokenomics wise we are currently planning to make a deflationary token. This means that as the chain gets used the supply will decrease. This is very different to most L1s which are inflationary. We did not like that you are punished for holding a token long term.

Onchain gameplay means verifiable gameplay. This unlocks new gameplay systems like wagering. It opens composability so anyone can make companion apps and mods. But it was never possible because chains were not fast enough. Things change now with Somnia.

The issue with incentives is people will come and try to max extract. The trick is identifying who are your target audience. Somnia is starting to look at systems that proves your gaming credentials. This allows us and games in the ecosystem to incentivise players not bots.

I got asked today what will make web3 gaming breakout. Step changes in the industry come from business model changes. Free to play changed gaming forever. I believe web3 can power this change. Axie was scratching at it. It just wasn't sustainable.

I strongly believe that prediction markets will save Web3 gaming. Polymarket processed over $15.2B across 114M trades, with $1.13B in May alone. But you can't bet on anything. I think the mix of gaming + prediction markets will skyrocket engagement.

We rolled out a change to the default ETH gas model this week. Basically because Somnia is super fast you need to protect against denial of service and state bloat. Turns out many apps have hard coded assumptions about the ETH gas model. Complex systems are hard 😅.
