Does less consumer tracking lead to less fraud? Initial signs point to yes.

Here’s another reason to block digital surveillance: it might reduce financial fraud. That’s the upshot of a small but promising study published as a National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER)

Many of the internet’s ills are based on widespread corporate surveillance online. This pervasive system, ran by corporations and governments, stifles our speech and erodes our privacy. But together, we can dismantle it. https://t.co/fvT8nvKxjz

In this report, we outline how many of the internet's ills have one thing in common: they're based on the business model of widespread corporate surveillance online. Dismantling this system would not

When you are asked for consent - Thats actually called permission. Which if you had a consent receipt, rather than a cookie, this would mean you wouldn’t need to be used for permission. - Big tech uses the term consent - and this finally now being called out and enforced.
@0_P_N I really hope I'm never asked to give consent for every data transfer involving my personal data. That would be terrible.

For data brokers dealing with our personal information, our data can either be useful for their profit-making or truly anonymous, but not both. Our privacy rights online must not be sacrificed so corporations can fill their pockets. https://t.co/z60c2utfPq

Today, almost everything about our lives is digitally recorded and stored somewhere. Each credit card purchase, personal medical diagnosis, and preference about music and books is recorded and then

This is fake governance, luckily Digital Consent for data transfers is just around the corner. #2024 fake consent will be enforceable, data transfer, without consent un-ethical, in secure, risky, and soon requiring evidence of consent
The ICO has some new transfers guidance. In this scenario, a UK company wants to store employee health data in the US. It recognises that a transfer risk assessment (TRA) is required. Then the company literally copy/pastes this text saying it's done a TRA and everything's fine.

Very important clarification by @EUCourtPress today on #GDPR damages: The fear of possible misuse already constitutes a "non-material damage". https://t.co/vtUVNAroaq

Camers’s do not prevent crime. This has been known for a very long time. Camera’s help prosecute crimes and support lazy policing.
"We're being sold this idea that somehow surveillance cameras will prevent crime, but there's absolutely no evidence ... because we have so much footage of people quite brazenly doing crime in front of cameras," EFF’s @MGuariglia told @knxnews.

Research shows that the main claims about the potential benefits of trigger warnings— that they either help people to mentally prepare to cope with negative material, or are used to completely avoid negative material — are unfounded

A new study has some interesting takeaways.

Can someone consent and be anonymous online at the same time? Digital Transparency Lab research indicates that, not only is this true, but that we can do it and be more secure, by adding multiple pseudonymous attributes, without having to be identified.
Although it may be true that anonymity is almost impossible to achieve in the digital realm, people desire it Digitalization will remove all future potential for #anonymity

The Free Press’s @rupasubramanya testified today at the House Hearing on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. She spoke about the gradual suffocation of free expression she has witnessed in Canada and warns that similar practices could soon arrive in the U.S.
